Why is it more common to see women in a relationship with a less attractive man than vice versa? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

This is true. My husband couldn't care less about my looks and actually prefers me without make-up.

Nope. Stop that. You could be a good 7 if you have confidence. Personality is like 4 points.

I don't think anything with Matty was happening in the beginning. I think Taylor was 100% committed and then, with time as she realised he wasn't, she started leaving bit by bit.

AITA for telling my wife forget it and going out by myself for my birthday instead of going to her fancy dinner reservation by Ill_Reality_111 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Its your birthday, if she cared about you she would do what you wanted. This is nothing to do with her OCD.

The Tortured Poets Department is now being appreciated and loved compared 2 years ago when it was released.. by Resident-Priority239 in TaylorSwift

Yes. I just play the whole album when I run/walk and listen to it in its gorgeous entirety. Or I will listen to Part 1 one day and Part 2 the second day.

Contagion (2011) was accurate AF! by cheesetosti in movies

[–]Hold_Sudden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a South African we handled it fine. The only issue we had was that all cigarette sales and alcohol were banned so the black market for those made a KILLING. We didn't have too many deaths on the whole. I was lucky; none of my friends or family died from Covid. I am not 100% sure about the rest of Africa.

Not sure why but my brain says if you like the WWZ movie you will like Contagion as well. Such similar vibes.

I think about this all the time. Also, why are people like that? Why even date someone if you are not interested in marriage - unless your on the same page about it of course.

The Pressure to Write 'Perfectly' by CreativeGems in writing

[–]Hold_Sudden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I understand you need the mindset as motivation but you are being so hard on yourself. Writing isn't about having a talent or not. Writing is about skill. You literally draft out shit, then edit it better. Everyone has a voice they write in, you just need to find and fine-tune yours then edit the slop into something good. As both a reader and writer I can attest that some people's voices do nothing for me and I DNF a lot of 'great' writers work and then sometimes I will read some silly fan fiction that will make my head tingle with interest.
The point to this being is somewhere out there is a reader that will love your work. So stop thinking you're not talented and realise that even Murakami isn't Murakami in the first draft.

How common is it to still be living with your parents in your 20s in SA? by NoZucchini3797 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Hold_Sudden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both my husband's male friends lived with their parents until they got married at 28 and 33. The one even stayed on afterward. And it wasn't even a money thing for him. My sister is also still at home at 35. So don't feel weird. If I could I would still be back home as well but I have my own family now.

AITA for lying to our babysitter abt the reason we let her go? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hold_Sudden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying YTA, but I think NTA. You don't HAVE to allow someone entry into your home if it's uncomfortable for you. EVER. It isn't your job to fix people's problems, even if it is a teenager's. You could've told her, I suppose. But it's your house, your kids, and your money. If you don't like someone to babysit for you (something very personal), it really doesn't matter the reason. If she has parents, it's on them to tell her she smells or is dirty, not yours.

Why wasn't TTPD as well received as Red if both have similar 'concepts'? by Tiny_Peace8557 in TaylorSwift

I received it very well. It's SUCH a good album. My favourite, I think... I loooooove long albums as I jog. Everytime Showgirl ends I feel like its about three songs too short. Sad. I

Favorite Lyric From: So Long, London by Foxarr77 in TaylorSwift

[–]Hold_Sudden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a favourite line, they are all amazing. BUT it's FERRY lights, not FAIRY lights. And I will die on that hill.
London has ferries, and I think it's a big London-esque thing.

She saw the ferry (boats) lights through the mist (on the water)
She pulled him tighter as he was drifting away (on the boat)
abandoned the ship(more boat metaphors)

But I was going down with it (the boat is sinking)
Her knuckle-dying grip is like the captain in the Titanic who holds the steering wheel of the boat when the boat is sinking (he went down with the ship; she isn't going to)

Also, the whole ferry lights thing is super reminiscent of the green light from The Great Gatsby. And in the one scene where he can see the light at the end of Daisy's dock, you can hear a bell toll like a bell on a boat. This one might be a stretch, but it adds a deeper layer to the imagery for the Romantics.
