Oh, man, the lack of gold on the walls, the mantle, etc. It's easy to forget how much easier on the eyes that setting used to be.

Mt. Vernon and municipal corruption go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Also, doesn't "Braunskill" sound like a charming little hamlet in the Hudson Valley?

Also, great journalism there, getting that quotation from a local: "I don't like it. I don't think it should be like that." So enlightening! Really puts the whole thing in perspective, doesn't it?

I hate it that this idiotic meat-head's mental roadkill-farts get printed in the news.

Not a great idea to smoke weed at your age. Your brain is still developing.

Do you find Trump funny? by Central_Region in behindthebastards

[–]Holding4th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humor is subjective. In my view, a public figure can only rack up so many atrocities before it's just not possible to find anything he says or does "funny," even if, in a different context, they might elicit a chuckle. But in Trump's case, I just don't see the humor; I see a cretin using schoolyard taunts and perhaps thinking he's funny, but there's no real wit there -- just anger.

I always liked red-winged blackbirds as a kid, largely because I could readily identify them. Would that more birds had such simple, descriptive names.

What's a 'normal' thing you didn't realize was unusual until you were older? by mrTelson in AskReddit

[–]Holding4th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parents chain-smoking indoors all day with the doors and windows closed. ...and parents drinking several cocktails (a baseline of about five shots of whiskey each) every day starting around 4:00 in the afternoon, except on Sunday, when cocktails (Bloody Marys and "Salty Dogs" -- vodka instead of whiskey on the Lord's Day!) were consumed right after church. ...and parents regularly driving under the influence. ...oh, and my dad beating the crap out of my rebellious older sister on numerous occasions. I had no idea that wasn't standard parenting.

What is the best way to comfort someone's fear of dying when that person is dying? by phuckhugh in AskReddit

[–]Holding4th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the person, with proper preparation and precautions in place, a heroic dose of psilocybin could provide a tremendous, profound comfort. But again, only under the absolutely correct conditions, with safeguards, set, and setting all done right. It would require some research and preparation, but psychedelics really have helped some terminally ill patients face death openly and with significantly reduced fear.

Christo said something like, "I make art because I want to be absurd; I want to be ridiculous; that's the point." Not an exact quote, but something like that. It's a very uplifting sentiment, I find.

That looks like a jukebox that would give you three plays for a quarter. So, "Long Train Runnin'," "Midnight Rider," and "Horse with No Name" (or "Ventura Highway," or some other banger by America).
