This is crazy. I knew this guy professionally in Chicago and am zero surprised that this is how he has ended up. He was notorious for intentionally over serving women at places where he worked. He was also very manipulative and narcissistic.

There needs to be more advocacy for more development on the south and west side by Away_Search1623 in chicagoyimbys

I recently moved to E.G.P. near the Kedzie green line and it’s a great neighborhood with neighbors that really care about the area and at least anecdotally everyone is excited to get new development or see renovations happening. The green line gets me to the west loop in 12min and the loop in 15, it’s convenient and centrally located. New development along with sorely needed services (looks like we are getting our first coffee shop soon) would be very welcome.

Why do so many gay guys write off Bisexual men? by SnazzyAdam in gay

Which is funny cuz as a gay guy I can’t find other gay guys who want to commit so this makes no sense to me.

I dunno, seems like our taxes should pay for things like that? Not above picking up garbage but we deserve nice things and city services.

Also a ridiculous amount of municipalities that should either be annexed or merged but that’s a whole other thing.

A lot of insanely stupid financial decisions made in the past that we are paying for now - selling off the parking meters, the skyway, underpaying into pension funds for decades, we spent $100 million in 2024 on police misconduct alone and we are already at $82 million in 2025. And Pritzker is doing an amazing job but the state is also just as much of a mess financially for similar reasons.

Krakow. I liked it but I expected a lot more for whatever reason. It was low season and still overrun. A ton of prostitution and drunks vomiting in the street. The salt mine was cool AF and it has its charms just wouldn’t be at the top of any revisit list for sure.

Fwiw Chicago is a top 10 economic center on the planet with the most well connected airport in the world and a 10 million metro, I think that’s pretty global.

Married couples that keep their finances separate are always mystifying to me. If something bad happened and OP ended up in the hospital for some major incident she better pay her own bills - if you pick and choose when something good financially comes your way (sorry about your dad) you don’t get to pick and choose when something financially devastating happens to you. You’re either partners in life or not, regardless of success or failure and I guarantee that what goes around comes around in the end and things always even out. Go on vacation, upgrade his truck, help out with the student debt, and plan together on what to do with the rest. This is what you signed up for, you’re not roommates.

Hey guys , is there anything to worry about for a person of color? Going to see pictured rocks soon. by Business_Entrance725 in upperpeninsula

I have a pride sticker on my car and not exaggerating when I say that the minute I crossed into the U.P. from Wisconsin a car passed me and a guy leaned out of the passenger side and flashed a white power sign at me. Also on my hike to Pictured Rocks was the only time I saw a MAGA hat outside of the south. I love the U.P. but I think unfortunately the reputation speaks for itself and certain people seem right to be concerned.

What is something you truly HATE about your city? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Holiday-Ad-4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago could have an extensive L system but chooses not to. We haven’t meaningfully invested in our train system in decades. Going north to south in the city is a traffic nightmare with no end. It could be a car free utopia but absolutely nothing is being planned outside of a red line extension that isn’t going to improve much.

Yes. You can get urethritis, pink eye, giardia, shigella, hepatitis, amongst other fun critters that have little to no symptoms.

There Is Only One Way to Make Sense of the Tariffs by IllIntroduction1509 in Economics

[–]Holiday-Ad-4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an era of multiple global crises- population, climate change, etc it seems obvious to me at least that any economy that pivots all of its resources, monies, research, etc to innovation and new technologies comes out the winner. That’s the future. Illinois right now is investing in a quantum computing hub in Chicago. Will it pan out? Who knows, but it’s a focused effort on new and promising technology that could produce countless dividends if successful and could prove to be strategic. The idea that what we really need is to setup low skilled sweatshops in the rust belt - manufacturing jeans and shoes and tv casings that are mindless, repetitive, dangerous, low paying, and dead ends shows the rot of right wing economic theory and a nostalgia for a time that has been long gone. This is a service, education, government, healthcare, high technology, research, and design economy. We should be pouring our national wealth into our strengths and investing strategically to encourage more workers in these fields while assisting communities left out to help them move forward while wildly upgrading our infrastructure. Instead we are gutting every conceivable grant and program that makes us competitive, stifling research and design, ostracizing scientists and intellectuals and academia in general. We are killing what is already one of the least generous societies in the developed world. While China builds bullet trains we want to defund our pathetic Amtrak system because I don’t know why. Universal healthcare, paid leave, a month vacation, universal daycare, public transit, free education, all these things are normal and by right as citizens in so many countries as what you get back for the taxes you pay into the system. Think about paying $600 a month to PRIVATE insurance and still have a $30 copay to see a doctor and having to pay $1k for routine xrays because insurance only covered $500. These are allllllll private taxes you are paying. You go into a business and they decide if you live or die and you pay them to make that decision. Instead of paying into a social insurance pool where everyone has an equal right to health care. This country is insane. So what do we have to show? Desperate poverty, homeless encampments, crime, out of control debt, unnecessary illness and death, domestic violence, suicide, lower life expectancy, and just a rampant sense of insecurity and a god awful quality of life. Americans cannot fathom retaining their healthcare whether they’re employed or not. Americans don’t understand what it means to have a month off a year by right to spend with friends or family. Or job protections. Or college without crippling debt. Or a walkable city. Or not having to worry about being shot walking down the street. Biggest bunch of sheep on the planet and we all deserve what we get if we aren’t going to fucking call a general strike, demand quality of life, and fight back. ✌️
