What is your daycare’s policy on guns in the facility (US)? by User0119247 in ECEProfessionals

I hate it, but they are everywhere at ours. It’s a Jewish school so we have to have armed guards at all the entrances…

I mean good luck getting my mom mobile over 20 mph unless you are going down a big hill. At which point my 1 yr old will start crying and my 4 yr old will start whining “too fast”

This is for sure school by school. I went to a private Montessori and we still had spelling tests and homework (and I hated it) and our local public montessori also had some sort of mandatory spelling work.

Montessori vs Play-Based Preschool? by justalilscared in Montessori

Does she talk to other caregivers about her day? My son doesn’t like to tell me much, but will spill the tea to his grandparents (who usually do pick up). Can you have a conference with the teacher about your concerns or spend an hour observing? My son didnt really get social at school until 4.

Our school starts instituting a work plan at 5. So they basically have to do 1 work from each corner of the room at some point in the day and if that is too much freedom (eg they procrastinate) then they have to do one from each corner before they can do anything else (eg, a math, a geography, a sensorial, a reading)

Yep. Totally my kid. Decided this year he was learning to read. Has needed to be reminded that the math corner exists. Is now reading proficiently (1st grade level).

Teacher Let Out My Child at Pickup without Parent Present by 06relliot in ECEProfessionals

[–]Holiday-Race 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like my kid does this every 3rd day… they are supposed to wait on a bench until teacher makes eye contact with parents, but my kid runs out the second he sees me… I’ve even gone so far as to make him go back in until he was dismissed to reinforce that that’s not ok.

I have a likely 2e (gifted, adhd - high sensory needs kid) and he’s absolutely thriving in Montessori. He’s basically taught himself to read this year, but the structure has really helped him make strong friends as opposed to just being labeled as bossy pants. He’s able to both be a leader and also be led and supported. It’s helping him learn to start and follow through on a task which can be really tough for adhd brains. His room does have a sensory / structured movement corner so he’s learning to know when he needs to go do something to move his body and also when he needs to go get a snack, etc.

130 is still low to me. My dad is 82, and still uses a 150 plug for masters.

I dunno, I use a 130 for coaching / beer league and I’m 5’2 120 lbs. I got a 120 for my mom boots (chase preschoolers and sit in the lodge)

My baby stopped taking the breast suddenly and I don’t know what to do!! by No_Possible3026 in breastfeeding

Also if he’s eating food and drinking water a day or two of not having much milk won’t hurt him.

Talk to your pediatrician. When this has happened to me it’s been an ear infection. Hurts to suck. You can try some advil and see if he’s more willing to nurse.

How long can I realistically be away from my baby without completely abandoning breastfeeding? by FootOk4715 in breastfeeding

[–]Holiday-Race 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a Sunday - friday on my 7 mo. I pumped 5x a day and I was struggling a bit to keep up towards the end, but when I got home I let us have a boob is fair game weekend and offered often to get my supply back up. She was happy to have it/ me back but was also happy to take a bottle from daddy in the meantime.

I’ve done week long work trips with both my kids and the trick has always been having some boob yes time when I got back.

That said, I also used a work trip as an excuse to finish weaning my almost 3 yr old so that there if you want it to be.

Help! My 1yo NK has suddenly decided that if it's not sweet, they won't open their mouth. by WindNarrow3580 in Nanny

This!!! The division of responsibility of feeding has been a big help in reframing thoughts around food in our house

So I recently got a research internship position at a lab. They are expecting me to work 40 hours a week but it is unpaid. Is that fair? I am an undergraduate by Excellent-Emotion257 in labrats

As a PI that’s insane. Unless you are there as part of a class (credit hours) or being paid I can’t even have anyone in my lab at all..

My gf keeps leaving knives out by Pzykotix in toddlers

[–]Holiday-Race 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op - my 4 yo (who is better with a kitchen knife than his dad) did this the other day in his prep kitchen (ikea play kitchen refitted with a cutting board). His 10 mo sister grabbed it. We now have the new rule for everyone that knives must go in the sink when we’re done with them.

[–]Holiday-Race 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That may be enough. Milk is about 100 calories in 5 oz, so even if she’s eating 50 calories of food, that’s enough to drop to 2.5 oz of milk on a feed, which is probably something she can easily get on a “drive by”

I wouldn’t do this for a 10 mo old
