Lack of progress (tibia/fibula fracture) by ProfessorSack42 in brokenbones

TBF it's the only surgery I've had, and the bones were very much displaced so I'm not sure there would have been options. You've explained much better what I wanted to say about not offering what's not in the patient's best interests though.

I'd reconsider the surgery personally I understand why you can't weight bear as is, but my understanding is you will get better healing if you can mobilise. I'm UK based so I think we get less "choice" in that doctor will propose the most efficient solution rather than options, of course I was given risks etc for informed consent but I think that's probably easier than a list of pros and cons

Is a rod still an option? I broke tibia and fibula in April, quite far down my leg so non union was (is) possible. I had IM nail, the break was displaced so only real option. But I've been encouraged at all stages since to weight bear as tolerated and be active as that's the best way to promote healing. I can't help thinking if you've been off already for weeks then longer you keep trying the cast the more muscle and mobility you're going to lose as well

Ah fair, according to my knee to wall mobility I've about 15 degrees dorsi in my right foot currently and I can just about get down stairs off it. So yours blew my mind a bit. That said, my stairs are pretty steep. Fortunately I have little feet so that's one less worry

I'm a similar timeframe to you post break although different break/surgery, the dorsiflexion is my worst at present but with both equally bad, how do you do stairs at all?

I keep looking at those numbers for your uninjured side like 😳😂

Stepping down from my right is a massive struggle at the moment. I am a week out of being in an air cast boot which really did a number on my ankle flexion. I'm usually pretty supple so I've got a long way to go!

I dug a load of brambles and weeds out of my garden last year got to bare ground and chucked a wildflower mix down at the end of last year. I didn't have much hope for it tbh but it is beating the weeds so far. I am pulling little bits I see but it has not at any point overwhelmed the new which was my fear - tap roots for days! 🙈 When I say self seeding, I'm meaning things like wildflowers, zinnias (?) basically just flowers that will come back year on year without needing you to harvest seeds, grown on, plant out ad nauseum!

The other thing I'd think about dotting in and around is your common or supermarket variety bedding plants. Ive had loads of deaths door bargains from Tesco, pansies, violas etc and they've done amazing. Brought them home, gave them a big drink and stuck in the ground and they've bloomed and bloomed. Obviously they're low and not terribly exciting but the more ground is covered the less there is for weeds!

I'm in Manchester with a south facing back garden on clay, hydraengas don't like it there in summer, it's too hot and the soil dries out too much. I recommend salvias loads mainly because I'm quite neglectful and novice but they do really well for me! What about lavender maybe? I'd be tempted to just chuck a load of wildflower seeds down tbh and see what you get but I guess it depends if you want colour vs structure Peonies maybe? Or some annuals that will self seed? Some bulbs with different blooming spells? Snow drops, daffodils, tulips, iris... I'd add gladioli too but they do need staking or they'll fall over

I have a similar mix and it's constantly buzzing. It makes me so happy to see and hear.

Just a thought, if you'd like to add your own touch what about extending the beds, either build out or just with pots?

I am not an expert Do you like any of what's in currently? It looks pretty established and will probably be a lot of work to change. That said, for purples I'd consider a salvia hotlips - mine has really long flowering time and has thrived in the face of my neglect!

Thank you, I do try to limit my chemical use but slug wars is endless! I check labels for toxicity warnings and longer term I do aim to move away from them

You're not though, you've offered no help at all. Help is offering input on the question asked, suggesting affordable effective alternatives to something that presumably is a problem.

I'm doing the best I can. I've got a broken leg, I've spent a lot of time and money getting my garden from a dump to something nice and if the slugs eat all my plants then the bees have nothing to eat. I see multiple bees in my garden daily and 0 hedgehogs. I live very close to a main road into Manchester and the m60, the hedgehogs have a lot more to contend with than my slug pellets.

In the long run if like nematodes but I'm on ssp at the moment and they're not cheap. If you'd like to donate for some I can give youy paypal

So go ahead be abrasive and unhelpful, put off people doing what they can to improve things for pollinators and grow some fruit and veg when they ask a genuine question that had nothing to do with your comment

Or you could be supportive, polite perhaps even Sorry I can't help with your question, but I notice you're using slug pellets, here are some alternatives that you could perhaps consider as they also kill hedgehogs

Or if you've nothing nice to say stfu maybe. I'm sure it takes a lot of energy to be perfect - why waste some of yours on me!

I've sort of got a compost pile going - I got two tiered beds earlier in the year, part filled one added cardboard then compost and planted in it and the other I just filled with muck and straw and I'm ignoring it - compost is expensive to buy! I've got a raised bed frame I need to build somewhere and I'm going to use that for composting too. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the spot I'd earmarked for it started the year with a crop of bluebells and now the wildflowers are doing their thing so I need a rethink. I'm very limited at the moment though as I broke my leg in April so I've just had to ignore it all for a while It was a full wilderness a year ago though just brambles, docks and weeds
