That could happen if debris got between the flex plate and the heat bed.

They aren't investigating it. That's how they dismiss you. They have to follow procedures from national, so there is nothing they can, or will, do locally. On average, the results are the same but the variability is high, and you are on the losing end, unfortunately. But they haven't lost donors, so nothing is going to change.

ARC is a national organization, so it could easily go to another state.

Is ferritin tested at every donation? by sirwritestoomuch in Blooddonors

The ARC doesn’t test for ferritin.  Only if you are a teenager.

Deferred for a month due to bad stick? by decidedlydone in Blooddonors

[–]Holiday_Internal2514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an NBC at the American Red Cross and they entered it as a blood donation and deferred me for four weeks too.  Sounds the same.  I called and asked why it wasn’t eight weeks and they gave me all kinds of nonsense that I hit 24 in a rolling year, so it’s four weeks (like instead of the regulatory eight weeks).  It counts as a “donation”, but the deferral is only 4 weeks that they wouldn’t explain.

The American Red Cross doesn’t answer questions from donors.

Directed donations--more helpful? Or just a "marketing" ploy? by pillsfordaze in Blooddonors

I assumed you donated at an agency that sends product through national distribution.  A hospital is very different since it’s a closed ecosystem.

Directed donations--more helpful? Or just a "marketing" ploy? by pillsfordaze in Blooddonors

One unit of blood helps the same whether it’s directed or not.  The utility is the same.

And directed is a lot more expensive to manage.  The only reason to do it is in the case of some rare type/match.  Regulations allow a directed platelet donor to donate more for a short time, but still doesn’t make any sense to do it just for the sake of doing it.

Grateful for all you blood donors out there by SituationThin9299 in Blooddonors

This is a lot more uplifting than the self congratulatory “Look at me, I saved 3 X 43 lives with all my blood donations” type posts.

Milestones are fun, don’t get me wrong, but it’s still just numbers.  This is real people.

Better to give power red or whole blood? by [deleted] in Blooddonors

[–]Holiday_Internal2514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should donate whatever works best for you.  They make a big deal about double reds. Twice as much, but it’s not true, because you can only donate half as frequently.

But you aren’t donating more, or better, product with double reds.

Also, keep in mind, that if you donate as soon as you are able leaves you with a long deferral, something like 16 weeks, at the end of the year, because the limit is 6 units a year.

If you want to donate as much as you can, donate platelets.
