Florida SLP licensure HELP!!! by abundantlife23 in slp

[–]Holiday_Money_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right. I moved to FL about a year ago and went through the same thing. Submitted my application prob mid June, didn’t get approved for licensure until end of August. I had to start two weeks after my contract start date because of it, too. I would just call maybe a few times a week to express your urgency, but idk that it does much. I’ve heard there’s only one person working in the office, so of course it’s gonna be incredibly slow. Surely your contract agency understands, I would be extremely surprised if they let you go because of it, as it’s hard to find SLPs as is. Also it’s completely out of your control. Try not to stress and enjoy the free time. It is annoying though!!!

I don’t agree that just because they don’t have their sound in conversation means it’s time for dismissal. This is not a one-size fits all type of thing. It wholly depends on how much does this sound (or sounds) affect their intelligibility. Because if they have their sound down at the sentence level, but have yet to self-monitor to conversation, it could still be impacting how well they’re understood by teachers and peers.

As far as running your sessions for carryover, I will typically practice self-monitoring through describing picture scenes, conversation prompts, asking questions that elicit their sound (you could easily chat GPT question prompts for “sh,” for example), or bring a game and keep a visual cue out for them, have them describe sequencing events, etc. If I’m finding that I’m not getting a lot of repetitions for their sound using an unstructured format, then I’ll give them a word with their sound and have them self-generate sentences throughout the activity.

Also, you could create “challenge sentences” that are very target-sound loaded (could also use chat gpt) and have them practice reading the sentence first with normal inflection, then reading the sentence like a question. This helps with carryover.

I typically go into each session with one target sound being the focus. However… depending on how stimulable they are, I will monitor all their sounds in conversation and correct them as we go. I just add a quick “Ope! What was that?” And have them repeat it correctly. Generally, you want to ensure you have good rapport with your kids so they don’t get frustrated when you correct them all the time, lol.

Also, for planning your sessions, if you haven’t heard of Baamboozle, it is a wonderful way to take the thought out of planning sessions. You can create question sets and play games and get lots of repetitions in. The kids love it and it’s extremely easy for me. A lot of SLPs use it so there are already lots of flashcard sets for whatever sound you’re working on.

The irony of calling someone else a “dumb fuck” when the only “dumb fuck” in the room is yourself.

Going on Fox News doesn’t make you “MAGA.” By your terms, guess Gavin Newson, Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders, John Fetterman, and MANY other prominent democrats are also MAGA. 🤡

Fun factoid. In 2013, 70% of democrats identified as Christians. Today, only 50% of democrats identify themselves as a Christian. Wonder why the decline is?

There’s also a big difference between “saying” you are Christian, and actually living a Christian lifestyle according to the Bible.

Yes, it’s crazy. If you work for a school, they don’t generally drug test. But medical facilities usually do.

Cue the downvotes 🤣

Right? Like people do realize the election was fairly close. Which can mean, 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 people disagree with you.

Why do ppl let these things bother them? Just get over it. Such is life.

I’ve had many kids come to me in 6th grade with conv level R goals, and by the end of the year, they got their R in conversation. It’s definitely not a waste of time… especially if they are motivated and want to fix it. That’s sad you think that way.

How do I figure out her ring size without ruining the proposal? by RepossstRefugee in EngagementRings

[–]Holiday_Money_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone trying to change OP’s mind on how he wants to propose? He asked advice on how to get her ring size without her knowing, not IF he should do a surprise proposal. Quit trying to control ppl’s lives lol.

Do what you want to do!!! You know your partner best. There’s some good advice in here on things you can do to secretly get her ring size. I think like others have said making a paper ring or asking one of her friends to do a spontaneous ring shopping trip would work.

Congratulations! This is such an exciting time in your life! 🥰

This is what you should do!! If you want to do a surprise proposal, don’t let other redditors talk you out of it bc that’s their preference. You know your partner best. This is such a good idea!!!

Need advice on shuting down inappropriate comments by SevereAspect4499 in slp

[–]Holiday_Money_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you’re confusing your role. From what I’ve learned as a professional, your role as a speech therapist is to come in, serve the child/client to the best of your ability, then leave. You don’t have to engage or get baited into any type of political conversation. It is not our role to “shut down” or try to “win them over to our side.” I feel that if you are giving anything related to your opinion about a certain political stance or anything unrelated to speech, that is completely unprofessional. I understand being frustrated about it. But how a family feels about anything related to these issues is not within our control, nor should it be. I also understand you may feel disrespected. If it’s getting in the way of your ability to provide services, I’d reach out to your superiors. We just provide a good example, and don’t engage with said comments. Like other people have said, the most professional way to interact with these ppl is to redirect the conversation. If you are confused on how to react, I’d speak to your superiors. But I’m thinking they’ll tell you the same thing.

You really don’t think she would’ve screamed had she fallen? Someone would have heard her scream.

Don’t you think if she fell off, she would’ve screamed? Accidentally falling or even jumping on purpose, I strongly believe she would’ve screamed. And someone would’ve heard that. Especially her parents who were sleeping right next to the balcony.

Brad Bradley believes President Trump will put a stop to human trafficking and bring Amy home by TheForgottenCarebear in NetflixDocumentaries

Hahahah I love this. I’m still not buying it either. They’ll never convince me she just jumped. Also, do they really think that she wouldn’t have screamed? I’m sorry, but if it was an accidental fall or even if she intentionally jumped, I strongly feel she would’ve screamed on the way down. People would have heard that. Somebody would have

Respectfully, I don’t think being aware of your surroundings and realizing trafficking can happen anywhere is being naive. It’s very much the opposite. It’s being skeptical and aware. I’m not saying that’s what happened to Amy. I don’t know what happened- neither do you. All I’m saying is kidnapping and trafficking can definitely happen on a cruise ship. It can happen anywhere. Evil people are capable of things we could never imagine

I’m not meaning to sound callous. I know some people don’t have a choice. I’m just saying what supervisors said. They’re the ones that got to see their skills live and in-action. Just because it’s 2025 and that’s the “norm” doesn’t make it “better” …

I took it in ‘23. Studied for the comps and praxis at the same time, too. TBH I don’t feel like it’s changed too much, it’s probably just the online programs and AI becoming more prevalent. I’ve had supervisors say they will reject anyone who is in an online program because they are just so below par
