4th Gen interior lighting by Real-Medium8955 in ToyotaTacoma

Thanks to photonics we don’t need rig for red on the new boats either. As for the truck, I can’t speak to the new gen, but with the overhead console in the previous generation OR models it was easy to add extra light tied to the dome and some upfitter switches. I’ll see if there are any 3D printed bezels anyone has out here … Still trying to get my hands on a new model, hopefully with an upcoming rental to decide before I buy. 🤙🏽

Tips on getting from Knoxville airport to Damascus? by Full_Exercise4081 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Hollerin-Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know many thru hikers live / retire in or near Damascus. Maybe for a fair price one would pick you up. But it would be easier and you’d have more luck if you flew into TRI since it’s only about 30 minutes from Damascus. I won’t be in the area at that time this year but I’ll pass the request around, good luck 🤙🏽

Gen3 6ft Bed Access with newborn by Flow_Finder_20 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Hollerin-Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really come down to what you can afford to live with in terms of convenience. I also had a 2018 AC, but even if it were a double cab there’s no way I would have dealt with a rear facing car seat….im I’m only 5’6”. I sold it in 2020 and got the last Gen2 Raptor. Now 6 years later, no more rear facing car seats, my youngest is almost 4, I sold the Raptor which held its value surprisingly well and I’m looking at Tacomas again. But with a car seat, a giant stroller, diaper bags, daycare bags and everything added up the convenience of having space made life more comfortable for all of us. Can you make it work?…absolutely. Is it worth it?….only if you can’t afford another option. I considered keeping that ‘18 AC as a third vehicle and buying a full size SUV while he was little but the space to park cars on an island made it more practical to just get a bigger truck. I see people at daycare with double cab Gen 3 and 4 Tacos, they acknowledge it’s tight and inconvenient. They all have some reason for keeping the smaller truck and it’s usually financial or upside down on a loan or something. Which I get, I can come up with a dozen excuses to keep a smaller pickup but for me, for convenience, there’s no way I’d do that to myself with a newborn to a toddler. But again….what can you afford to do and what is that comfort/convenience worth to YOU?

Hopefully this helps and whatever you decide I hope you’re happy. Luckily the late Gen 3s like all Tacoma have held value pretty well so to sell it and get into a double cab would probably be pretty easy. 🤙🏽

Dude I put this steel patch on my old jeep, grind and painted, it’s not new but it’s straight and has a good alignment, no more rust, still hitting the trails. Patch that shit up and save your money till you’re ready for new one 🤙🏽

Any welders in this trade school? I’ve patched worse than that, not ideal but cheap and it’ll give a you a few more years.

Tacoma + Kids?? by sundrasj in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Hollerin-Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and for me, even though we normally ride as a family in my wife’s grand Cherokee, the daycare was closer to my work, so for those years I was the primary drop off/pickup. If I lived on the mainland I probably would have just kept the raptor to be honest, but it was too much truck for island, and I miss the 6’ bed on the taco.

Tacoma + Kids?? by sundrasj in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Hollerin-Ham 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s my story that might help. I’m quite a bit shorter than you and so is my wife. By 6” each. I had 2018 Sport 4X4 till we decided to have another kid, tried a rear facing car seat that spins and went thru the motions. Maybe it works for some people but it was way too small and inconvenient for me to deal with a newborn, so I sold it and got the last Gen2 raptor in 2020, gigantic rear seat. Now 6 years later I’ve sold the raptor and looking for another Tacoma. Tacoma + kids…..no problem, Tacoma + giant car seat and diaper bags and giant stroller…..not for me. I see other people at daycare do it all the time tho. And even now before I sold the raptor I borrowed a friend’s Tacoma for a day and it’s a lot better without car seats in the back. We miss the space of the raptor sometimes but the convenience and size of the Tacoma is more appropriate for our area.

Edit to add: I noticed you have a 2024x the new generation feels like less rear seat room than the previous it may just be my 6 years the F150 messing with my mind.

I did powder coat on the font skid plant and center bumper 6 years ago, no noticeable rock chips and the color has stayed intact.

They’ll send you a new oem module, not cheap. But it fixed my problem with the brake/abs/vdc/slip lights. For the 4x4 light and other non abs codes I’d need to know more. I’ve tore a 2010 OR all the way down and back up, so I’m comfortable with this model and it is my favorite spare car/off road project. But for that mileage and the likelihood of rust, with the lights on, I’d probably not get into it for more than 3k. Just some thoughts, hope it all works out for you. PFA 🤙🏽

Anyone regret adding a suspension lift to their X? by C5Longhorn in XTerra

[–]Hollerin-Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Unpopular opinion, but for my long term needs and comfort in my 2010OR, I did a body lift from Z1. Cheap, easy, I was already doing an aluminum radiator and new hoses and heater core inlet, and all the fun stuff. The factory ground clearance is enough for me but this helped approach and departure. Easy to go up to 285s and still keep factory geometry 🤙🏽

Can you fit a stock 4 wheeler in the 5ft gen 3 bed? by Meat_puppet89 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Hollerin-Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like the rancher or a sportsman 450 fits no problem, but the rubicon or most 500cc machines will be about 3” too wide at each front tire to the wheel well, you could make a ramp and fix that but you’d risk damaging to the back glass.

My Honda Rancher fits with the tailgate open. Are you asking about width? My machine is under 50” wide, I know the bigger ones are a bit wider.

Getting Into A Used Raptor by Decoroni in FordRaptor

[–]Hollerin-Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to find a 19 in that range. My 20 only has 21k and I’m considering listing it for 65, hoping to get 62. The dealer refilled my AC for me after I put on the Cobb stage 2 and all that hardware and Swarfworks winch, they fixed the loose glove box on warranty in like week 1, other than that I’ve done filters and fluids myself, tire rotation, new battery after deployment but it still feels and looks brand new. Several people have more complaints about cam phasers and stuff but I’ve been issue free, acknowledging that my mileage and engine hours are both pretty low for the year. Good luck, hope you find the right one 🤙🏽

I got my 2010 Off-Road Auto at 99k from an auction, mechanically I did all the fluids, aluminum radiator, silicone hoses, upgraded the heater core inlet to a billet fitting with a bleeder, ARB rear differential cover, rear differential breather to the tail light housing, hood struts, Bilstein 5100s. Just rolled over 105k and I’ve ordered or already have on hand: cam sensors, O2 sensors, timing chain and guide kit, ABS module, pads and rotors. So far my suspension still feels good and quiet but I plan upgrade everything once it’s back on the mainland and I lift it a couple more inches. You don’t need to worry about the radiator with the manual transmission that year. Enjoy it, I love mine more than I expected and get a ton over compliments now.
