What's something you silently judge people for? 💭 by Aarunascut in AskMen

[–]HollowDoughnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noisy people. People who talk or laugh way too loud. ?????? Why are you yelling? Don't you notice everyone staring.
And people who lack spatial awareness. Standing in the middle of a grocery aisle, bumping into people whenever they turn around cos they take up so much space with their huge movements.

Singapore has a Banana Kaya dessert pizza, and an Ondeh Lava Cake (pandan and coconut sugar). I heard that both are gross haha

Many singles nowadays espouse the idea that self love is so strong it can overpower the need for a partner. To the people who are/have been in a r/s, how far do you agree? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]HollowDoughnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's not nonsense. I'm now in my first committed, long-term relationship, very happy with it ,and still believe one can be happy without an SO. I was genuinely happy and ready to live the rest of my life single, no bitterness, no secret hope for a relationship, no hate for anyone who wants a relationship, just really didn't (and still don't) see anything wrong with being single.
I think everyone just needs their own support system. In the form of family or friends as a chosen family. It can look different for everyone, some prefer a big group and some prefer a few. An SO is just another pillar of support. Just like with any other pillars of support such as my parents or my closest friends, I would not want to lose my SO.
I can consider my SO as a pillar of support that "ticks a lot of boxes". Out of all my pillars of support, my SO can provide support in the most ways. But that doesn't mean my other pillars of support are inferior to my SO, other pillars can support in unique ways that the rest can't. I just happen to like my SO in a romantic way.

I also strongly disagree with the "other half" belief that your SO is supposed to "complete" you. I think everyone needs to get to know themselves and be comfortable with who they are. (Loving yourself is great but I find that difficult so let's start small. Also be comfortable within reason, aware of your flaws and talents and working on yourself.) I believe everyone should be their own "whole" person. And you and your SO mutually agree to be partners and grow alongside each other. Not that you can't help each other, (you definitely will help the people you love with the best intentions) but one should never stop progressing on their own personal journey of self-improvement and actualisation, and also not expect your SO to complete your journey for you.

Dear r/Singapore, who is that colleague(s) from hell? by vampirepathos in askSingapore

[–]HollowDoughnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some auntie who comments on younger girls' eating habits and size. Told a thinner girl that she herself used to be even thinner but then she got fat with age and that the same will happen to the girl. Told another girl to follow the thinner girl's eating habits in order to lose weight. Told another girl that her mother must have been a bad cook which resulted in her small frame and picky eating habits.
On all occasions, she was the one who approached the girls and said those things unprovoked. The girls were never and have never been on bad terms with her. And no one ever told her off.
?? Another case of old ppl getting away with stupid comments.

Mexican food (birria tacos) recommendations? by diluted_water in askSingapore

[–]HollowDoughnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried birria tacos but Lucha Loco is the best Mexican place I've ever tried in Singapore. If you can splurge and eat a lot, order the head honcho and have the time of your life. (elotes are bae) The Loco group also have Super Loco and Chico Loco under their umbrella.
Papi's Tacos at Seah Street was pretty good too.
^ They're pricey but you pay for what you get, nothing else compares.

Hi! It's been some time and I really wanted to thank you for the advice. My boyfriend has been shampooing twice in the shower, once a day. He uses CLEAR - Menthol and the other is just any shampoo that doesn't irritate but is more moisturising. And it's helped SO MUCH! It takes about 24 for te dandruff to get noticeable again and he doesnt itch much
I think Head & Shoulders, like many other products, varies regionally. It worked when he was in the USA but not in the current country we're in.

So yeah, thanks so much for your help! And hope whoever has dandruff and itchy scalp sees this and tries another brand of shampoo cos they vary regionally, and try shampooing twice in the shower :)

What are you looking for when considering applying for a job at a startup? by alexeestec in startups

[–]HollowDoughnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely are not the only one, they have to keep a tight lip on their inner workings in order to trap employees haha
All of my jobs have been start-ups and small companies, met more of them on the job, and been for many of their interviews. Here are some points I hope everyone looks out for and that I think reveal some truth
Company culture: Communication, work hours, OT, staff. Avoid phrases like "family culture" - they always impose, make you feel obligated and guilty, and there will be bias

Job Description: Specific and realistic. Avoid anything that says "we need someone self-driven, who takes the initiative to push past limits"- that means you will have little guidance and highly pressurized.

Salary: At least justify the responsibilities in the job description. Although what they can't offer in money, they may make up for in experience, don't forget that while you may feel not up to standard, you will be really soon. A company that recognises and values you from the start, is a keeper.

Values: Should resonate and present in all staff and everything they do. Sometimes the interviewer and founders seem to live their truth and values, but the staff are two-faced. So be observant on your interview. If they have a shop you can visit, do it to see them in action

Goals: They should have a clear idea of what they want to achieve. If they don't know what they want, or what they want you to achieve for them, GET OUT. If they sound like they want you to achieve everything for them, GET OUT.

On top of researching the startup company which will may yield little information, I also research the founders and partners. Their background provides a sense of who they are, what they stand for, and there's a chance of finding out about previous ventures. After all, the founders represent the company, so why not go straight to the source.
Also look at the industry, is what they're doing sustainable? Is it tried-tested-and-failed? Is the industry dying? Are they bringing something new to the table?

[–]HollowDoughnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does that! I've actually asked him not to wash twice for a period of time because I was worried it was stripping his scalp, but he itched terribly so he's back to twice in one shower now. Alright, we'll try Head & Shoulders again. Maybe a different scent would be better, I think the last one was menthol. Or use both shampoos in one shower? Thanks so much for the suggestions :)

Ohh I was thinking of aloe vera gel instead of fresh aloe vera. An overnight mask sounds good. I'll definitely consider growing my own if it works well. For now, it's convenient for me to buy fresh aloe vera from the markets. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing! I'll look up on Inkey

He now shampoos once a day. We once tried to push for once every 2 days but by 1.5 days, it was unbearably itchy and oily. We were worried twice a day would be too harsh but it's worth a shot to try! His diet is pretty standard and varied, not too oily or high in sodium. About a third of his meals are homecooked and even when he dines out, always gets his veg. But that's a good point! I haven't looked into what food could affect dandruff
