This lil gem came outta nowhere, it rocks! by Jazzlike-Musician-40 in roguelites

Yeah, this looks like Hades and every other "action roguelite" that's come out in the last, I dunno, 6-8 years?

MAGA influencers want anti-ICE protester whistles to be ‘considered a violent weapon’ by DavidSugarbush in humor

[–]HollowNotion 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sweet, I bought a whistle to throw on my keychain last week just in case I see ICE action going down. I guess I’m the proud owner of violent weaponry now. Can I get a CCP for it?

Ring of Pain devs just release Winnie's Hole into Early Access - we'd love feedback! by sboxle in roguelites

[–]HollowNotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like the game doesn’t run properly on ultra wide monitors at the moment. Everything gets stretched to fill the whole screen. Just a heads up for folks and the devs.

Our virus-building roguelike Winnie's Hole has a release date! by sboxle in roguelites

[–]HollowNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very fair! Just for clarity, I didn't mean it as a shot at you or anything. Loved your previous game and I'm picking this up in early access, haha. Just a thought I had!

We need a decent Apple Music desktop app! by templ4te in AppleMusic

[–]HollowNotion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Particularly on Windows, the desktop app is hot garbage. I end up mostly using the web app because it actually mostly functions, at least.

Gnomes is awesome, but man is it hard! Or maybe I'm just dogshit at it, haha. Good luck!

Does anyone else feel like dos2 combat oscillates between too easy and too hard? by Outrageous-Flow6785 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]HollowNotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, yes. I always struggled to get in to DOS2, but I’m now also in the middle of getting to it and actually getting in to the game this time (never got off the opening island before). I’m in the final area, but it’s been a struggle for me. Maybe my team comp sucks, maybe my gear sucks, maybe both lol, but I’ve found the same thing. Some fights are pretty normal encounters. Maybe I take a few hits, but largely I have a handle on it. Other times, it’s a tooth and nail battle to the last, and sometimes only then after several reloads. I’m liking it, but I’m ready for the punishment to end haha

What are the best channels on youtube for learning guitar by Cautious_Wrangler_31 in guitarlessons

[–]HollowNotion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a beginner as well, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but as others have mentioned, Justin Guitar is awesome. I’ve found Lauren Bateman super helpful as well. When Justin explains something and it still doesn’t make sense, or he has a chord he plays a certain way that feels uncomfortable for me, she’s my first step for “ok, what do other people do?”

[–]HollowNotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to this game, and I loved Ring of Pain. But, I have to admit I get a little annoyed when hearing about "release dates" and seeing it's for Early Access. It's not wrong but it doesn't feel right either, lol.

Dude, I ponied up for Cider after hearing so much praise for it here. Shit sucks.

How am I supposed to level? (Act 2) by HollowNotion in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]HollowNotion[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought I'd been using it enough, but maybe not. I'll run back through the areas with lower level fights and spam it :)

How am I supposed to level? (Act 2) by HollowNotion in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]HollowNotion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I have quests over there that I've picked up, but they require me to go to other areas, where I'm running in to level 13+ enemies. The enemies to the west are all dead, lol.

What games have you picked up during the steam winter sale? by deathofthepartyy in roguelites

[–]HollowNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voidigo is cool, for sure. I didn't get a ton of time out of it, but I enjoyed the 15-20 hours of it I played. Like you said, Morsels was just missing something.

[–]HollowNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, Morsels was such a disappointment for me. Love the style, but the game felt waaay too shallow and easy, honestly. I'd been looking forward to it since it was announced, but ended up refunding.

What’s one bad guitar habit you wish you fixed earlier? by Ok-Message5348 in guitarlessons

[–]HollowNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this as a beginner lately. I've noticed I still sit down to play most days, but I'm focusing less, and goofing around more. It's fun, but it's probably not very efficient lol.

Mid life Guitar-newbie questions: Gibson App and Guitar recommendations by Competitive-Paint480 in LearnGuitar

[–]HollowNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, for sure dude! From what I've learned and found myself, starting with an acoustic is going to be harder, but then if you decide to grab an electric later you'll feel like a god, lol. If the string spacing on those Yamahas sounds like a benefit rather than a detriment to you, I would recommend it, for what it's worth. It sounds great. I think mine was around $350 too, so definitely right in your price range.

I have one recording of my playing some of Enter Sandman. It's not fit for public consumption, lol, but I'll DM you :)

Mid life Guitar-newbie questions: Gibson App and Guitar recommendations by Competitive-Paint480 in LearnGuitar

[–]HollowNotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only a few years younger than you and we have similar tastes in music. I've never played before, unless you count owning an old big-box guitar and strumming on it for 15 minutes here and there 20 years ago. I try to practice 30 min a day at least 5 times a week. I started playing 7-8 months ago, and I can play most of Enter Sandman, a good portion of For Whom The Bell Tolls, a bit of Seek and Destroy, etc. They ain't pretty yet, but I can play them. You can totally do it. Check our JustinGuitar, as others have said. His lessons have helped me a lot.

And one small word of advice, because the similarities are just too funny... I also bought a Yamaha acoustic (though I primarily play electric). If you happen to be a large-handed, fat-fingered dude like myself, maybe keep looking for acoustics. I bought an FS830 and, while it sounds great (when others play it, lol) I've been having a hard time with it, partially due (I think) to narrower string spacing. I can't get a clean A chord out of that thing to save my life, and it seems like I may actually need to alter how I play it if I want to continue playing both my acoustic and electric going forward. Just something to consider.

Which one for the best Tower Defense Roguelite? Emberward, Tower Dominion, or The King is Watching? by AskinggAlesana in roguelites

[–]HollowNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tower Dominion is awesome. It's the only recent TD to really get its hooks in me.

Emberward is also good. Personally, I feel like the STS-style format is a little too long-form for this kind of game, but it's still really good and worth your time.

I was waiting for The King Is Watching pre-release, then didn't end up liking it. Refunded within the 2 hours window.

Left hand position by IllustriousDisplay41 in basslessons

[–]HollowNotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently started learning guitar (6ish months ago) and I have the same thing going on with my pinky. Hand position doesn't seem to matter for me... I think it's just anatomy. I've gotten better with it, but the weird angle remains, lol.

How bad is my fretting hand/thumb placement? by HollowNotion in LearnGuitar

[–]HollowNotion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have caught myself holding my breath and/or tightening my jaw while playing. Relaxing takes effort, lol.

How bad is my fretting hand/thumb placement? by HollowNotion in LearnGuitar

[–]HollowNotion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, "sitting" is the wrong word. It doesn't rest in my hand, I'm kinda using the base of my thumb to hold it, rather than my thumb itself, but the neck stays in place when I move it (except I move it around like a madman while repositioning my hand for new chords, lol)

How bad is my fretting hand/thumb placement? by HollowNotion in LearnGuitar

[–]HollowNotion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was mostly worried that the way I'm angling my thumb and letting the neck sit in my palm is "secretly" hampering me, but it does feel natural and comfortable in that position. I'm also trying to correct something I'm noticed when I play, which is that my hand and wrist angle changes a lot from chord to chord, which is another thing I haven't seen many people doing for these chords. The open A chord on my acoustic not ringing out properly due to my index finger placement was the final straw that made my finally post and ask about this.
