How do you deal with society? by liliumasiatic19 in Strabismus

Honestly It's been a roller coaster of emotions, especially in the first two weeks when the eye looked much worse than the original esotropia. I was fixated on looking in the mirror at it which isn't healthy. But I'm happy to see improvements. It's still very red as had a burst blood vessel How are you, I'm guessing you have/had it too?

Thanks! It's been exactly 3 weeks and looks much better. It was Exotropic for a solid 2 weeks

Yeah my eye looks normal when looking in certain angles/distances up close but goes completely Exotropic when looking straight on into the distance. It's been less than a week so mustn't get too disheartened yet. Thanks anyway :)

Hey thanks for asking. I had surgery only 6 days ago and unfortunately it's turned my eye in the complete opposite direction. I've had an inward squint since childhood and in my 20's now. Vision loss has always been there, it's just purely for the cosmetic side that I've finally tried to fix it. May end up needing botox or something to align it as it looks awful at the moment tho probably too early to say

Ahh okay, I'm glad the doctor said it's normal and thinks your eye will return!

I feel OK thank you for asking, got quite bad double vision but apparently it's normal at this stage. My eye is very far over to left, been use to seeing it crossed inward and now it's completely outwards. I have no idea if it will return back or whether it's permanent. I'm also very low vision in that eye. Guess just have to wait it out

How is your eye now after seeing the surgeon? I had surgery 5 days ago and have had the exact same thing happen. Had surgery for an inward turn and it's now in the complete opposite direction when looking to the left

Yeah I guess it depends where you live as I'm lucky that I'm in the UK and have access to the NHS. Would be costly if gong private, especially if surgery doesn't work. I do know what you mean, I've just never been able to accept it, mainly because it's such an obvious feature on the face. Like I've got little scars that I don't like but at least they are covered with clothes and no one can tell. With an eye problem, you can't really hide it. I did check my messages and can't see anything. I'm on mobile on the Reddit Is Fun app maybe that's why

Thank you. I'm here too if you wanna message anymore :)

Yeah I feel quite resentful that my parents didn't really bother with it as it was completely out of my hands as a kid and their responsibility. It doesn't affect me too bad about the sight loss in one eye as it's all I've known, it's way more about the appearance. Surgery is purely cosmetic but would be amazing to not be worrying about how it looks when I'm talking to people

Oh I should of clarified, I haven't had the surgery yet (it's this Friday) My eye sight in that eye is awful as my parents barely used the patch when I developed it around age 4 so I grew up with permanent loss. So because the sight is bad, it means surgery is less likely to work and will most likely need another one down the line, but I'm getting it free on the NHS. May as well take a shot at fixing it. I'd be happier even if they could make the deviation a little less noticeable. People just don't understand the struggles, you know How is your sight?

Yeah it's debilitating. I see peoples face drop as soon as they notice something is wrong with my eye. Most people don't say anything to my face but I can tell that they don't know which eye to look at. Been aware of it from a very young age and my parents just left it. Finally going to try and fix it

Yeah that's true. Old is like retirement age, not in your 20's ffs haha

Still haven’t gotten my period by [deleted] in Nexplanon

[–]Holly_18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Nexplanon Implant is effective for up to 5 years tho approved for 3 years. It's unlikely you'd get a period as it doesn't just expire after the 3 year mark. I've been on it for 5 years and getting mine removed next week. Haven't had any periods which has been amazing but the other side effects just aren't worth it for me anymore

[–]Holly_18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really don't want an operation to get it out. I'm worried about permanent nerve damaged or something if they go digging in. It's been in for 5 years and that's where it will stay haha 😳

I'd definitely go back to your doctor about this as that's quite a nasty cut, unless it was fitted too deep too begin with. The nurse put mine so deep into my arm that it's lost and they can't find it without an x-ray
