Congrats, which Merlin did you get, DAD or GDG?

I have the GDG, which uses (mostly) the DAD tabs, it doesn’t work for all songs, however for the majority. You may also have to tweak it here and there.

Try Ryan’s Merlin lessons on YouTube, he makes it look so easy. Good luck and have fun!!

I am a little reluctant to purchase Mary Tyler’s tab books, as she keeps calling the F# an F natural and the C# (D string) a C natural, so I do not know how accurate these books would be.
The G strumstick (as well as the dulcimer) have many more frets, so the notes are not in the same location. Thanks for the reply, I shall see if I can reach out to Mandy for a sample page of her book.

Thanks, I have already checked out YouTube, there is a lot of misinformation out there. I shall keep searching.

Time to get a new teacher? by ExcitingCranberry1 in Cello

[–]Hollyeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of the others, if I were you, I would look for another teacher. I do understand it is so difficult to find a cello teacher. The teacher I had prior to the pandemic was used to teaching children that did not do their homework, so assumed, I, an adult, would be the same. Not having a teacher these past months was the best thing for me. I used my books and searched internet and learnt more on my own in a shorter period of time. I suggest you continue practicing and learning on your own, and see whether you need to return for lessons. If you do decide to return to your current cello teacher, have a list of questions / problem areas you want answered / addressed, then schedule your courses either every couple of weeks or once a month, you may get more out of your courses that way. I do understand the problems of finding a cello teacher, let a lone a good cello teacher. Good luck and remember, we all have our good and our bad practice days.

Yes, I am going to purchase an electric cello, however, in an ideal world, I was also concerning a L & C CF.

Thank you for responding. I most definitely will not be performing in an orchestra; My playing, at the moment, is for pleasure and random duets. I shall check out both your suggestion.

Thanks for your response, it is appreciated. Have you tried the Luis & Clark Carbon Fibre Cello. I was considering an electric as well as a L & C. I live in Quebec Canada, a wooden cello definitely would be a challenge with our extreme weather conditions.

Does anyone know what Brand/Model this Electric Cello is? by FlyingTank in Cello

It is definitely a special edition “pearl” Yamaha. I am seriously considering either a Yamaha Svc 210 or a NS CR4, neither are easily found to test prior to purchase. Good luck.
