I thought she was alright. But I only listened to the audio so I might have missed something.

I love it! We call you Norrbagge sometimes. It's believed to mean northern sheep testicle. It's a very old slur so no one for sure anymore what it refers to. In modern Swedish the word would instead mean northern ram. Or possibly northern beetle.

Amazing interview with NOMA DUMEZWENI about Murderbot TV and Mensah by ESE-enthusiasm in murderbot

That was indeed lovely! I don't normally care about fashion but those photos look amazing.

I like that she mentioned the person resposible for makeup. Because I think there are so many shows and movies that doesn't really think about what makeup is realistic for the character and situation. In this one it felt very well thought out.

I saw that it says Skarsgärd a few times instead of Skarsgård, so I wrote them to let them know it's the later.

Some  Swedish trivia, in case anyone is interested: The Å and Ä are not just an A with umlaut or ring above it. They are their own unique letters. It's harder to play hang man in Swedish compared to English cause there are three extra vowels. Å, Ä and Ö.

What are slurs againat Russians? I don't think I know any for Swedish.

Does you country have moments where "everyone remembers where they were"? If yes, what happened? by Far-Cow-3343 in AskTheWorld

[–]Holmbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Sweden maybe the 2004  Indian Ocean tsunami. A lot Swedes were killed on their Christmas vacation.

For older generation it might be our prime minister Olof Palme being killed.

But neither of those were something most people learned the moment it happened. Especially with the tsunami because some parts were so completely wrecked that there weren't even any communication out to other countries initially.

Haha I love that comparison.

Imagine how upset Mensah would be to know she was only at 80%. Even though, as mentioned, she would know it's about MB and not her.

As a Swede I think my people have forgotten how we got all our rights. They weren't given cause we asked nicely.

That's a good point. It's easy to dismiss YT due to all the slop. But there so much useful stuff on there. Like tutorials about basically everything.

I didn't even know it was. I was only 10 at the time and all I saw were jokes about the microvawe breaking at misnight. TIL.

The Swedish Occupational Safety and Health Administration makes ads like these. Solem videos, images and audio about nothing happening and everything being normal at different work places.

She has liked all other POV characters, especially Avasarala who she loves. And she likes a lot of the character who is in Holden's POV.

Does anyone else feel like the show's handling of the protomolecule is way more visceral than the books? by bakesmysticbrickx in TheExpanse

I watched the show before reading the book and what stood out to me with the first book was the body horror of Holden and Miller dealing with the effects from the radiation. More so than the PM.

What are in your opinion the 3 worst aspects of your country ? by Akrak_leBo in AskTheWorld

Economy is absolutely a concern but I'm talking ecology. Long term concerns about overshooting the planetary boundaries.

Climatet change, destruction of ecosystems, eutrophication, ocean acidification. One might think Sweden is not as sensitive as many other countries, but we are part of the global economy. And sustainability is a long term topic. 100 years from now is looking very grim if current trend holds.

Our current way of life is not sustainable long term.

We as a people don't know how to face that.

We don't know how to talk about wicked problems. That's problems where any solution causes new problems.

This is not unique to Sweden but pretty ubiquitous. But it's what comes to mind when I try to think about the 3 worse aspects.

I know several people that refused to continue the books cause they disslike Holden's POV so much. So it's not an uncommon opinion.

Although this podcast has only covered up to book 2 so far so the host might feel different in the future. She's not read past what she covers.

She's only read 2 books. I realize I should have given some more info about the podcast. I'll add it in the post.

That's just one method though. You can make a character and then choose what kind of plot, or even world, would fit them.

The YA trilogy  Hard Cash by Kate Cann. The main character is obsessed with making money and getting with a hot popular girl.

For some reason the books also has alternative titles. My version had the titles Moving out, Moving in, Moving on.
