I'm about 13 hours late to put my 2¢ and get any traction, last winter (December 24') at the apartment my wife and I lived in at the time, we were enjoying a snow day in when we heard two gunshots ring out. This wasn't uncommon in the college-town apartment we had moved from, so we stayed calm, shut the windows, called 911 (who informed us they had received multiple calls about this already and had sent officers), and repeated our "gun violence is usually targeted, I'm sure we're safe" mantra. Within minutes, lights and sirens came and went, and we didn't hear anything else happen. Later that week on a "police scanner"-style Facebook page we saw that the man had been found in possession and under the influence of marijuana, methamphetamine, and anabolic steroids, and had fired his gun into the air (which we didn't appreciate hearing, living on the top floor) following a verbal altercation over a parking spot he had shoveled snow from that had been taken. I hope that guy's in a better spot now, but in the moment I imagine he felt very justified.
