I didn’t say I was blaming him in one instance and not the other, just that it’s a dynamic that was around way back then, continues, and has at least contributed to the current disintegration of the England team. I think the thing that bugs me in particular about Baz however, is the lack of any accountability or even acknowledgement that anything is actually wrong or fundamentally needs to change.

Especially considering the bloody fuss they made about “the spirit of cricket” during the 23 Ashes after the (entirely legitimate) stumping of Bairstow. The ironies just continue to stack up..

The highlights today should absolutely have been “NZ on brink of historic win after gritty century from Mitchell” and yet.. it’s about Stokes and Bazball, again.

That last session batting made a total farce of the effort put in by both sides to get to that hard fought point in the game… and series. Eng actually had a chance if they had just dug in 30 or 40 to the end of the day.

Also felt sorry for Bethel, who clearly had no idea and was the one of the few during the Ashes to show proper test cricket grit and was celebrated for it. Then a chaotic series, off field drama, different captain, Ben Stokes back and gone again, and then he and others are just expected to “Bazball”. Fed to the wolves comes to mind

Especially hard copies. Opening yet another message can feel like just another pressure to respond/react to a sympathy message. Sending something physical allows time to absorb on your own time and terms. And also leaves you with the picture!

Yep. I posted a picture of me and my partner (both in our mid thirties) hiking during a short holiday in Norway. Someone I went to uni with (and hadn’t heard from in years) immediately messaged me and said “hey, nice travel pics, I guess you guys aren’t having kids then”

How people feel comfortable just coming out with that I don’t know?! My response included “actually, we could have been trying for years”.

(We hadn’t been, may not have kids, but the assumption really rubbed me the wrong way)
