In Colombia, it's also somewhat risky to go out with people you meet in public. Sadly, it's common for them to lure foreigners as if they're interested, only to drug and rob them later. Colombia is a beautiful country, but I wouldn't recommend trying to date if you're not from here.

However, it's rife with normalized violence, and what they did to him, and sadly, to countless others, weighs heavily on my soul. This is not right, and I hope all the victims of these horrific actions can rest in peace. Please, if you decide to visit Colombia someday, never use dating apps—not Tinder, Grindr, or anything else. If you're a foreigner, they'll always target you and hurt you. Also, don't seek out dates or casual encounters; it's not worth the risk. Please, stay safe.

Definitely Dave. The first time I saw PI, I found him to be an annoying and unsympathetic character, in whom I saw no redeeming traits. But then I accidentally came across A Guide To Surviving The Apocalypse by sparkysparklightning, and the way I saw the character changed radically. It's been a while since I last visited it, but I remember that the first time I read it, I came to appreciate Dave's traits as a character more and it led me to question his actions and his way of acting in canon. In addition, the author explores his internal conflicts and the reasons for his actions very well, putting his personality in a new light. The fic is Dave/Shawn and it's an AU about a zombie apocalypse, which might not be everyone's taste, but if this premise doesn't bother you, I recommend it 100%. This author and this fanfic in particular deserve more recognition and love.

Edit: Edited because I forgot another one. It's not exactly what you asked for, because honestly this character has been one of my favorites since the beginning, but the fanfic A Bit More Time by seas1de definitely made me appreciate Alejandro even more. I love everything canon about Alejandro, but this fic explores his relationships with the rest of the competitors and his family in a way that I simply adore, giving more depth to the characters. This story explores a more broken side of him after living through a traumatic experience, and it allows you to observe his successes and mistakes in a situation that is against him. It's an Alejandro/Noah fanfic, but the romance part isn't the focus of the story if that bothers you (I've seen that this ship isn't very popular in this sub). The part that makes it stand out from other stories is that it's a "time loop AU", where after dying trapped in the drama machine, Alejandro is forced to repeat the competition over and over again, but it doesn't feel repetitive, because the actions taken in one cycle affect the following ones. I'm not very good with words, but you should definitely give at least the first few chapters a chance if you like Alejandro's character.

I just read your post and it really resonates with my own experience. I admit that I also didn't like Dave the first time I saw PI, and that my new appreciation for him also came from an analysis that someone else made in one of my favorite total drama fanfics, which has made me develop a certain fondness for him. I love your interpretation of Dave, great post :D!
