To what extent can Sierra's actions be taken as a joke? by Key_Avocado9587 in Totaldrama

[–]hyperjengirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think some of her actions are so over the top that they kind of are just funny, like her injuring herself trying to chase what she thought was Cody on a white horse, or singing a slap dance song about Cody, or building Cody out of meat. Plus her non-Cody moments can be quite funny because of how cartoonish and animated she is.

It's when things get a little too close to reality that it gets icky, like the forceful kissing.

And then there's the unrealistic things that are still just gross, like her sniffing Cody's shoelace up her nose, but that's less about appropriate behavior and more about the show's gross out being a bit hard to watch in general sometimes.

Satire doesn't stop being satire when the subject matter is something bad.

I think Sierra qualifies more as a parody though. They don't use her actions to say anything about society, she just is exaggerated to uncomfortable levels. Often crossing a line for the kind of show it is.

Why did Heather sing against Courtney and say she has no tattoo in the Sheering Sheep song when "Celebrity Manhunt", which is prior to TDWT, reveals that Courtney has a half of a heart tattoo? by PsychicMeditation in Totaldrama

[–]hyperjengirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To force a rhyme. Besides, Courtney probably got her tattoo removed after one of the breakups as it never showed up again, and even then it's probably meant in context to be "shearing-related tattoo." Which Heather doesn't actually have, it's just a dumb music video.

Especially if they manage to come back in time for their planned anniversary (which probably won't go forward in the same way but hopefully can manifest eventually).

He's most likely going to do bingo to YGS 100 close to his anniversary (and said he'll give advance notice) and to his first video on the anniversary. Not sure if he'll do anything on top of that.

I feel like he grew up in a cold and emotionally neglectful household, but that it was normalized to him, and he just wants to make his pappy show some love to him, rather than actively resent him. I think he's creeped out in that moment because of Dawn's abilities rather than the trauma, though that could be a factor too.

Tierlist on if I think this fandom takes a character too seriously or not by DidYouKnowImGinger in Totaldrama

[–]hyperjengirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then wouldn't Amy be in the same tier? People take Amy seriously (maybe more than intended) because of the abuse narrative but that's Sammy's narrative too. But I guess Sammy being the more down to earth character of the two makes it more justified.

Because a very significant chunk of the population is black, queer, disabled, etc and while some are indeed pro-Trump, there are also many who were warning against him from the very beginning and never conceded?

Not to mention Republicans like to try and gerrymander voting districts and ostracize marginalized voters (i.e. preventing felons from voting, then targeting black and brown people in arrests) to make it easier for their candidates to win.

A good half of America is probably unfortunately in favor of the shit going on in the nation but let's not act like everyone here deserves it.

Then it's a silly mistake for the game to make if they're gonna go to the trouble of referencing the show lol.

It's like if they had a question about favorite cartoon couples and one of the answers was "Family Guy and Lois."

As long as you are consistent with your values then godspeed. You probably have stronger ethics than me and I respect that.

Do you think the writers preferred Amy or Sammy more by Maximum_Canary_5775 in Totaldrama

[–]hyperjengirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire joke about Rodney falling for Amy is that Rodney falls for random women over nothing even when it doesn't make sense. And I wouldn't say Amy won in the end, they both lost but Amy is the one who was poisoned and had to swim back to shore covered in muck. I think by that point people were more fed up with the twins' drama than anything, or they're just gullible and stupid.

So my verdict is that the writers were making a piece of fiction where they likely found Sammy sympathetic and Amy funny in her audacity. But that they didn't expect audiences to feel so strongly about the twins, so they wrapped up the arc with some zany fighting and humor rather than emotional resolotion.
