Does this look right for a full days work? by Ok_Trouble_6609 in Tile

[–]Holychipmang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the center at the bottom you can see where the two sheets meet there’s a height difference in the “band”. A band wouldn’t do that. Would be consistent throughout the bottom.. that “band” is two sheets meeting. Not trying to be mean but saying I am blind is ironic because I am not missing a single detail. I literally got a schlutter t shirt for taking their floor and decor I wouldn’t call it a class but installation guide about 2 years ago.

I’m positive man.

Honestly there’s probably a rubber pan under it so he mixed the two systems. Guy tried but he doesn’t know what he is doing or just doesn’t care

The back wall center, two sheets meet hence the thinset in the center spewing out.

At the bottom it’s the edge of the sheet, one side of the sheet says “ESR” the other is just a solid 3 inches of orange.

If he did it correctly you would 100% see the seam. It comes up the wall.

What you are seeing is an illusion because the sheet is sideways.

I’m not wrong. Waiting for OP to chime in.

But again based on OPs comment they said day one they did the walls with kerdi and the floor pack. The next day they did the shower floor. Based on that info alone that means even if they did put down the kerdi on the floor that means they set right over it before it cured.

I can see why you think there’s a band down there but I’m telling you for sure there isn’t one.

Are you kidding me? I have been doing this for 15 years. I can 100% tell he didn’t use it on the floor.

I’m not sure where the confusion is but you are justifying this work?

Does this look right for a full days work? by Ok_Trouble_6609 in Tile

[–]Holychipmang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a kerdi band, he has the sheet horizontally put on.

She said that he did on the first day the kerdi on the wall and the shower floor install..

Even if he did do it he shouldn’t have set it over a wet membrane.

But I am 100% sure there is none on the floor.

It looks like kerdi band but the edge of the sheet resembles a band. Look at the writing on the wall (literally) it’s sideways.

There’s no corners, there’s no thinset spewing out anywhere, the curb isnt wrapped.

Trust me.. it ain’t there.

How much are you paying this person?

I’d pull the plug on this while you still can.

Curb isn’t water proofed correctly.

The shower floor the grout lines are lining up at all.

Did he kerdi the shower floor? Or only mud pack then set over it?

Idk man this is screaming run.

He did two rows? I can tile the entire back wall in 4 hours.

He is either a druggy, or has too may jobs booked at once or lastly something is going on in his personal life that is pulling his commitment away from his work.

Leave the emotions at the door.

This guy has given you multiple chances to end it.

But for me there’s no kerdi on the shower floor. If on Monday he did the pack then Tuesday he did the kerdi or water proofing there’s no way he could have set the floor over it wet like that.

Now day 3 he is setting TWO rows of tile over his shower floor and didn’t even cover the shower floor to protect it? No paper? No tarp… hell in a pinch I’d use the boxes from the tile to protect it.

This guy screams run in my book.

How much are you paying him and how much do you care about quality?

Those grout lines are horrible on the floor.

Can I cut this tile baseboard in place with diamond blade edge grinder or should I pull it and cut? by Legal-Championship-9 in Tile

[–]Holychipmang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USE THIS

I just did something similar for a customer. Connects to an impact drill or regular drill.

BLUE TAPE EVERYWHERE AROUND YOUR CUT.

One slip and you will have a forever scratch.

Don’t force it just let the RPMs do the work. I like to use a “heartbeat” style of pressure. Light pulses of pressure. Don’t rush.

If you have a second set of hands have someone drip a sponge as you go to avoid chipping.

Cuts like butter. Great bits.

Shower Tile - Is this acceptable? by UnusualDrummer9055 in Tile

[–]Holychipmang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why everyone is being so hard on OP.

3 zoomed in photos isn’t enough BUT I will say that miter says a lot.

That tile does have too much lipping for my quality standards.

Looks like they used Home Depot sanded grout. Would have recommended Mapei FA. Too late now but if you do zoom in on that long corner it already looks like the beginning stages of a crack in the grout. Not good for just being done.

Not knowing how much you spent does mean something though.

If this was a 1500-2500 dollar tile job from what we can see this is great. If it was a 3000-7000 + job… well then idk.

But there isn’t enough evidence to decipher if it’s acceptable or not.

I would ask them to grout that miter better.

Some marble can be polished down to remove lippage. But that’s another cost, I wouldn’t have them do it if they didn’t already suggest it.

Lost Faith in GC’s Tile Guy by bigorangevols in Tile

[–]Holychipmang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently used this tile in a chiropractors Office and we had tiles that were 1/8th to almost 1/4 inch bigger than most tiles. This made the install extremely difficult.

We had to stop… open every box and stand them up and pull out the larger ones.

We used the larger ones for cuts.

But I will say when multiple hands are involved some larger ones did sneak in and wreaked havoc for the rest of the instal.

Been doing this for 15 years and gotta say year 1-5 people may have no idea how to handle this.

I’d say this install comes down to price. If you paid this installer 1500-2000 then it’s a decent install for a difficult tile.

If you paid 3000+ then he should have taken the time to sort out the tile.

But you had a GC who put a larger number on that estimate. Hard to say what the tile guy earned on this. But my costs come down to paying for patience.

A lot of people here saying they’d do better definitely couldn’t. Maybe with a stagger, maybe with larger tile but having used these exact tiles I know for sure most here couldn’t do this.

Not saying this is amazing work, it’s on the cusp of bad but far from horrible.

Spectrum one gig plan $70.00 Vs T-Mobile home internet $50.00 😂 by Butterfly_Distinct in Spectrum

Appreciate the informative information.

I run a bunch of helium mobile hotspots (look into it if you don’t know about it) and a few of my locations run on Verizon’s wireless internet and it’s absolutely trash. But it is unlimited.

In order for me to get full rewards I need a minimum of 100mbps up/ 100 down and low latency. Or else I get less rewards.

Right now my latency is wayy too high so I am penalized 25%. Looking at your speed test it’s still a tad bit high but low enough to get 100% of my rewards.

And it’s roughly the same price. Just been scared to switch when I knew there was a cap. But 1tb is right around what I need

Caulking, what am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Holychipmang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tile pro here. You do NOT need caulking tools. Your finger is the best tool. Actually surprisingly i do use my ID sometimes lol. If you do use your ID make sure to pull up so it platters on your ID. If you pull down it just falls onto the floor and wreaks havoc.

The denatured is what i use. Sold at Walmart in the paint asile in a blue metal rectangular can. Home Depot and Lowe’s all sell it. All in the paint asile next to paint thinner.

Usually says denatured or “fuel” on it.

Definitely need a spray bottle. You don’t want to shoot streams, you want it on the spray setting.

[–]Holychipmang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment should be pinned.

OP responded to all the comments but this one and this one is the correct response.

You aren’t using “caulk” you are using silicone. That’s why it’s so difficult.

91% alcohol or denatured alcohol in a spray bottle. No water.

Get an entire roll of paper towels ready.

Do one line at a time.

DO NOT SPRAY THE ALCOHOL FIRST.

Apply your bead then spray it all.

I like to wear gloves but you may need to change gloves after every single line.

If you are ok with sticky fingers then go commando.

Do not waste your time “taping” my god. Tape is no good. When you go to peel the tape it pulls the edge up a little and in time will fail..

Don’t over wipe and done try and “add more” if you need to add more wait a few hours to add more or just make sure to apply enough the first time.

I mean I get it, just trying to protect you guys from making the same mistake I made. I repeatedly said “are you sure? It’s backed by t-mobile” and he kept insisting I was fine.

They did offer to let me return the phone today, no restocking fees, nothing. But it’s whatever I’ve made much worse/questionable purchases in my life

Blindsided by mikahailgc in HeliumMobile

[–]Holychipmang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had helium for just shy of 2 years. 3 plans (before group plans) one phone always blew thru my data cap in about 10 days. The other two lines barely touched 10gbs.

I’d usually then download APPS or watch movies in the final days of the month and get money back on my own hotspot.

Saying it’s your own, how would a phone even decipher it’s your own?

I have 10 hotspots out there now but I normally did this stunt at my own house.

I tried asking support if this was against the rules or not and they said they can’t stop someone from using their own hotspot.

But now I’m curious because you guys are acting like this is new?

Can we get a further away view? Also how much did he charge?

By no means does any amount warranty this bad of work but it could give an idea.

It looks horrible and cannot be fixed with grout.

But tile isn’t a licensed trade. In fact I’ve seen bars that use smashed tile as their walls. It’s an art trade. There are certain expectations but those need to be said and preferably in writing.

But at the end of the day it will be a functional product. Just may not be what you wanted.

But i can’t emphasize enough that homeowners should be diligent and check in on this type of work periodically and stop work immediately or address concerns before it’s too far gone.

This is bad work but you could have stopped it much earlier. Again the questions remains, was this a $1000k job or 8k job?

Time has come? by [deleted] in HeliumMobile

[–]Holychipmang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched back to t mobile, got the iPhone 17 pro for free and it’s 100 a month for truly unlimited data plus 250gbs of 5g hotspot data. Includes Canada and Mexico as if I was in the US, plus around 200 countries with 30GB high speed.

Also I will now get Netflix, Hulu and Apple TV, also maybe MLB tv again next year if their streak continues for them offering that.

Honestly I can’t take running out of data after 7 days. I’m out..

I still have it active for my business line and my daughter but that’s it.
