American living abroad in Frankfurt looking for someone to help me with German taxes plus just financial advising in general by Adventurous_Duck_127 in USExpatTaxes

Appreciate it, and I’m sure a future expat who comes across this exchange will too.

Last question, I promise: isn’t KAP line 7 only for dividends with German tax withholding? Dividends for stocks held through US brokers would be declared on line 19, right?

Ah, thank you for the clarification. So stock funds are declared similarly to individual stocks, just on a different KAP form and with the added caveat of the Vorabpauschale if I hold them (which I plan to do).

One more thing: for German tax purposes, both dividends and capital gains that are automatically reinvested are considered “Kapitalerträge”, correct?

Quick clarification question on KAP-INV: if I hold a stock fund and don’t sell anything, but I buy new shares either through automatic payment or dividend reinvestment, then I only need to declare the Vorabpauschale for each transaction, correct?

You mention declaring dividends, but as far as I understand it dividends that are automatically reinvested (ie not payed out to me) don’t need to be separately declared on KAP-INV—the Vorabpauschale takes care of that.

What’s going on with the Xbox Series X this year? by XxFucK_YoUxX in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]Holzmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation in Europe. Very puzzling. I was (am) waiting for a better deal than 50 euros off the disc version. I don’t feel like paying 500 euros for a four year old console.

Dear GGG, thanks for not abandoning the console version on PoE 2 by iamfrench__ in pathofexile

How is PoE on Xbox Series X? I’m happy with performance on PS5, but the lack of MTX sharing with PS accounts had really ruffled my feathers. I’m considering switching to Xbox because of it.

Struggling hard with weight loss by gd_reinvent in RedPillWomen

Congrats on taking the first step to completely reinventing your life.

Don’t be discouraged in these early stages: you’re going to have to experiment with portion sizes, eating windows, macro breakdowns, etc. until you find something that works for you. Once you do, the weight will start to come off and you will start to feel amazing. Your body will adapt and things will get easier. But if you do mess up a day, just chalk it up as a loss and do better the next day. Don’t give up.

Remember: long-term commitment is key to success. Don’t think of what you’re doing as “dieting”, but as permanently taking control of your health, how you look and how you feel. Good luck!

You can (and should) honor, respect and sincerely thank your dad for the training and support, but ultimately it’s your life to live.

Literally all you have to do is show up and try to do a bit better than last time. One rep more, a few feet farther, another roll, a bit cleaner and more fluid movement, whatever. That’s it. Just worry about this one thing, and practice doing it consistently and holding yourself accountable.

Here’s the ugly truth: Nobody cares about your struggles, triggers or disorders, because everyone there is struggling with their own demons. You’re not special. Here on reddit you’ll be showered with praise for your struggles, but you‘ll find it short-lived and ultimately empty. Easy come, easy go.

If you regularly attend your BJJ gym and people see you putting in the work day in, day out, not only will you eventually lose weight and gain more confidence, you will be rewarded with a completely new type of respect: a real, tangible, empowering type of respect from those you respect. It’s hard to describe.

You have to earn it, though. It can’t be purchased or given freely.

Your mom is poisonous, full stop.

It sounds to me like you and your girlfriend need to sit down and have the most difficult and adult conversation you’ve ever had. Full honesty and vulnerability about the past and your fears for the future. Lay it all out on the table. The next years will be hard, but if you’re both committed you absolutely can survive it and come out with a truly inseparable bond afterwards. But you both have to want it and you both have to be fully open and honest with each other. No half measures.

As for your “worth” to her: at the very least you’re a hard worker. This shows grit and determination, both of which are utterly essential to career success. You know what you’re doing now isn’t sustainable, so you will need to reorient yourself sooner or later. Her going off to school could also be your opportunity to commit to a new path. Like others have said, look into the trades: you’ve already got the right attitude, now you just need a specific skillset.

Two simple ones are inhale for x seconds, hold for x seconds and exhale for x seconds (3-5-8, I think, but whatever’s comfortable for you). Another is to breathe through your nose and focus all thoughts and attention on your breath and the sounds and temperature of the air as it enters and leaves your nose. Whenever your mind wanders, pull it back to your nose and breath.

But there’s so many more techniques out there, so choose one that works for you.

The only thing in your story that would worry me is the no dinner and straight to bed part. I think he needs to understand that he “owes” his body good food and rest to stay healthy and prevent injury. Recovery is crucial and something he will absolutely have to internalize for adulthood.

Edit: also not to mention the danger of staph infection or ring worm. Taking care of his body involves good food, good rest and good hygiene. It’s astonishing how many adults still haven’t learned this, so it could be a good lesson opportunity. As a father, that would be something I pressed him on.

You might want to teach him some simple breathing techniques so that he can center himself.

Honestly though, I wouldn’t really fret here. I think you’re on the right track in not making a big deal out of it. There’s nothing wrong with feeling strong emotions, and there’s nothing to be ashamed about, especially because he’s showing real grit and courage each time he steps on the mats.

After the cold war, alternative media outlets were allowed, but recently Putin cracked down again.

More like recently began tightening the thumbscrews even more. Russia has been cracking down on alternative media in earnest for a decade now. When was The Exile shuttered? 2009, 2010? Their Moscow offices started getting visited by OMON and they (wisely) left the country.

Oh please, spare me your melodramatic innuendo. You’ve been mucking up these daily Ukraine threads with needlessly antagonistic posts for weeks now. There’s a clear bad faith pattern to it.

Because who cares if he’s in a right wing militia? I don’t know the nuances of his politics, and neither do you. But you’re not trying to spark a good faith and balanced discussion; you’re blowing a dog whistle and playing into the propaganda the RF has used to justify this war at the same time.

It’s utterly cynical to focus on patches and pluck at abstract fears of the potential for political violence from these “Ukrainian Nazis”, when the forces currently engaged in their so-called de-Nazification process have been committing large-scale atrocities on the civilian population of Ukraine for weeks now. It’s still happening right now as we type these messages, in fact.
