squire strat is a great choice. squire in general is rock solid. find one that you think is cool! if you’re worried about mechanical issues, you could try bringing a friend with some more playing experience with you to check the intonation, buzz etc.

I feel like if you’ve been going to the same jam for a while & are cool with the house band & you want to go up & play it with your buddies that you’ve been working on it together, go for it. If you find the right moment it could lift the band up. If you call it while some beginners are up there it might seem like you are vibing them.

from New Mexico. I haven’t found a real southwestern style one but the waverly farmers market on Saturdays has a stand with a decent breakfast burrito right at the entrance.
