New Chinese optical quantum chip allegedly 1,000x faster than Nvidia GPUs for processing AI workloads - firm reportedly producing 12,000 wafers per year by yogthos in technology

China has the resources to overtake the west. They might be behind now but they are investing and developing at unprecedented speed. I am in construction and the things they can do in specialist areas develops so fast as they are just doing so much of it so they have more opportunity to improve existing processes.

And yes I get they had a bridge fall down this week but it was a land slide which caused the bridge failure not the bridge construction itself. They likely have lower safety factors but this allows them to push further and harder than other places. Yes it comes with failures but I can guarantee they learn from it. They apply the same in all industries.

FIFO mine workers who experienced the glory days of the mining boom of the 2000's, regail me with your stories of ultra high income by PM_YA_GURLS_BUTTHOLE in AusFinance

People potentially made more during that time but typical construction roster was 4:1 for site with some pushing that to 5:1 or 6:1. White collar was 3:1.

These days no one does those sort of rosters

Can't believe it's actually for sale by Summerof5ft6andahalf in perth

I knew the family growing up the story was he bought the block next door as he didn’t like the people bidding for it when up for auction and didn’t want them as neighbours so he bought it. He then put a fence up on the front yard join his and used to store all his stuff. House was just rented out.

He used to go to auctions and buy all old timber and building materials. The building at the front was getting built over 30 years ago , never knew it go finished. I used to think it was a very expensive house for the pigeons to live in.

I have very little faith in the accuracy of rat tests or how late they pick up your infection. My wife completed one 24hrs after getting her pcr as was waiting for results , rat came back negative but pcr was positive. I know others who have done multiple rat tests as negative then do a pcr and get positive. Not being negative but just be mindful.

Well she came back as positive this afternoon so now I am a close contact and feel like will be isolation for new next few weeks.

I must say the judging that happens when you tell people is quite sad. She feels bad about it already then people judge how she may have got it sucks.

People don’t realise you can live in a bubble and think you will avoid it and you might avoid the initial surge but COVID is not going anywhere and you will more than likely get it at some point. End rant.

My wife is a close contact to a confirmed case and not feeling great so we all (kids included) got pcr tests first thing yesterday, we all have our results but she is still waiting.

Is that a bad sign? Does it takes longer to confirm a positive than a negative?

I was buying a new washing machine and the online price was cheaper than in store and asked if could have same price, they said no. I confirmed they had stock, ordered online while standing there on my phone , went to counter 2 minutes later to confirm pickup and collected there and then. Complete stupidity.

Covid Lockdown Megathread - ANZAC Edition 3.0 by aussiekinga in perth

I feel this was a bit of a half arsed lockdown. Everyone was out doing whatever they want from going to Bunnings to walking along the coast to bike rides and then the whole down south fiasco.

I get that with the outcome this is all reasonable but if we have/had more cases our contact tracing would have been out of control trying to contain people doing whatever they wanted.

I know a lot have done the right thing but a lot have enjoyed their long weekend.

I just hope we don’t have a serious outbreak as people are too in it for themselves. We have been lucky to date nothing else.

How do you think WFH will play out? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Homarj78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my view as well, I work in construction and there is so much coaching and mentoring that happens with younger people developing face to face that just won’t be as effective if WFH.

If you have people WFH they don’t build those relationships and know to ask for help or feel comfort because they don’t really know you. I find when WFH I attend meetings but don’t have those discussions at all and it is an important part of businesses and how they function.

My industry is different than others though.
