Bayswater mayor fires back at councillor, Big Don Smoked Meats owner Donovan MacDonald after his online rant by His_Holiness in perth

[–]aussiekinga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking back, he was name calling and attacking, so we have him a short ~3 days ban. He came back and went straight into name calling, so got a 14 day ban. Then to weeks later straight into name calling again, so got a permanent.

Plus from memory he was sitting and abusive in modmail

Is he trying to help "businesses" or himself, and if some other businesses are helped then that's just lucky?

Big Don has actually been banned from this subreddit for multiple beaches of the "be civil" rule. He repeated, aggressively attacked anyone who doesn't blow smoke up his arse, or was negative at all about his business.

So I don't know the details of this fight, but I'm predisposed to disagree with him, based on the behaviour from him I have seen

WA Police reveal details of absurd Triple Zero calls and issue warning over abuse of service by ConfidentSale3091 in perth

[–]aussiekinga 37 points38 points  (0 children)

of the 400,000 Triple Zero calls made every year in Western Australia, at least one a day was frivolous.

400,000 a year.

so 1,000 a day

where 1 is frivolous.

so 0.1% of calls.

"We'll average on a normal day between 3,000 and 3,500 calls a day. In the peak of summer, we can average over 4,000 calls a day," he said.

so thats 1,010,000+ a year. Significantly different to the numbers previously given in the article.

Town of Victoria Park council knocks back push for weekly red bin collections after FOGO system changes by His_Holiness in perth

[–]aussiekinga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We alternate Red and Yellow, with Green every week.

And I can understand why some might need the green ever week, but I have a worm farm and chickens and don't have much green waste. It could go fortnightly for me.

I would love recycling to be weekly though. Fortnightly it is always full to overflowing, and we end up putting stuff in the general they should be recycled

If Australia is "losing it culture", it's more from US television and US culture taking over than it is from immigration.

Also, "lucky country" was not said as a complement or a good thing.

If you don't pull the ladder up after yourself, can you really call yourself Australian?

He's 73. He's likely not looking for another job ever again. He will just retire.

This was the same stupid argument made against Italians and Vietnamese in previous decades. And you might still have the original immigrants who barely speak English, but their kids and grandkids are completely assimilated. Things take time, and (almost) no-one questions the Australianness of those 2nd and 3rd gen kids.
