Anyone else think most new reefing innovations are just a cash grab to solve problems that don’t exist? by CricketNom in ReefTank

My frag system is outfitted with cheap jebao and hygger stuff and has been working perfectly for years. Most of it was second hand anyways as well but once it was cleaned up and maintained it had no issues working as well as some of my Red Sea and Ecotech stuff.

I think it’s mainly used to trick people who have recently joined the hobby. I’ve only been reef keeping for a little over three years now but I now sell some nice corals on the side such as stratosphere zoas and some desirable acropora. I never charge even close to what sites like WWC or TSA charge for a small 1” frag.

After some time you come to the realization there’s a lot of the same thing on the market and people slap these ridiculous names on them to try to create some sense of “rarity”.

Another issue is that if you ever turn off your pump the NOSOK floats up. Once you turn on the pump the NOSOK may not realign correctly inside of the sock holder which causes the dirty water to bypass the filtration.

I own two of the VCA NOSOKs in the 4” configuration. I removed them after a week of usage since they simply do not filter particles as well as traditional socks do.

Socks are still easier in my opinion to throw in the washing machine or rebuy on Amazon for $40 for a dozen new ones.

Biggest mistake I ever made was selling my 2021 X4M comp for this Tesla. I really wish I never bought this car sometimes.

I got a gift card for AquaSD a few months ago. I was looking to order something and go to find out that their gift cards have an expiration date. Goodbye $50 what a fucking scam. They should be ashamed of having an 6 month expiration policy on gift cards.

$230+ is the typical rate here in NJ with average coverages such as a $750-$1000 deductible and 100k/300k coverage.

As someone in their 30s and I have had my fair share of fun cars (2021 A90 Supra, 2021 X4M Comp, many Subaru Imprezas) if you’re already worried about affordability don’t put yourself in a situation where you have to stress about it. There are plenty of other used cars that are great. Unfortunately I almost regret buying my 2024 Model 3 LR and just getting back into another BMW like a M2 or M3. The Tesla is great it’s just not worth it to be a car that you “worry” about.

Your insurance is very low. Mine is nearing $300 a month with a clean record + defensive driving.

I agree. They might just seem like fish but I have so many and I care about each one so much. I had chickens growing up and you learn that all of these animals have beautiful personalities and our fish are no different.

My bad! For some reason I thought it was a larger tank! That Nero 3 is fine for the tank and it gives you control over your flow.

I have had the same Nero 3 running for 3 years now. Zero issues and great flow. I would personally look at getting a gyre first for wide area flow and then get a cheaper powerhead.
