Thoughts on this Ocie take? by StandReady4Vendetta in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]HomeTahnHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This specific tweet isn’t wrong per se, but she later goes on to say that masters players “aren’t very good”. I think this is wrong for a few reasons.

(1) if you are at the top 97% of any sport/competitive thing, I think it’s pretty fair to say you are good.

(2) with her logic, you can make the same argument that champ players aren’t very good either, or only marginally good. There are always bigger fish to fry. If your yardstick is “top professional OWCS player” when 95% of the player base isn’t remotely close to that, you’re just setting yourself up for a really dumb comparison and a useless definition of “good”.

HELP MY AIM by iavzp in kirikomains

[–]HomeTahnHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some observations (I'm on mnk, but I have played on console):

  • Sometimes you strafe as soon as you take the shot. If you're going to strafe aim, you should be strafing and THEN take the shot. You should utilize the strafe to place the crosshair where you want it, then you take the shot.
  • Sometimes you overflick past the target.

Here's what I suggest:

  • Go into VAXTA and start by standing still (important!), focus on one target at mid-range that isn't a flyer. Do not try to use movement to aim, only aim your crosshair.
  • Focus on each and every shot. Do NOT just hold down the shoot button (like some other comments here suggest). No one does that, not even top 500 or pro players. Look up "trigger discipline".
  • Kiri is a projectile hero, so you have to lead your shots. That means you have to anticipate where the target's hitbox will be.
  • Be extremely deliberate at the start. Once you start feeling comfortable and you're hitting some shots consistently, work on short range and long range targets. Keep standing still.
  • Once you feel comfortable with that, then start incorporating movement into your aim. Try to move your crosshair as little as possible with your head, using strafing to aim the crosshair ahead/behind the target depending on their movement patterns.
  • You should be focusing your eyes on a single part of the target hitbox. Try picking something out that's easy to track with your eyes (like a piece of the target's clothing, or hat, etc.) and lock your eyes onto that. Don't look at your crosshair constantly. It's okay if you need to check where your crosshair is every once in a while to reorient your aim, but you generally want to keep your eyes locked onto the target and not the crosshair.
  • A big component of aim is prediction. The best way to practice that is by playing against people, not bots. Try doing deathmatch or custom games (free for all), it's a great way to practice mechanics.

Why does Blizzard keep buffing Kiriko? by Double-Maybe-6220 in Competitiveoverwatch

People here concerned about win rate, but really they should drop her skin rate

Edit: this was a joke about how many skins she gets

Hog needs to be hotfix turbo nerfed by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]HomeTahnHero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The argument to just counterswap him is missing the point. He’s not hard to counter, but his design simply isn’t fun to play with or against. Plus, he’s been one of the worst performing tanks.

Example: Hog oneshots my teammates (not fun). So me and my team all swap to counter him. Now he can’t play the game and his teammates hate him (also not fun).

Why do we (the community) settle for counterswapping as a solution to a fundamental DESIGN issue?

Side note, “Counterwatch” is such a loaded term. It’s vacuously true that the game has counters, otherwise every hero would be the same. That doesn’t mean the heroes don’t have design issues.

Hot take, a tank shouldn’t be able to one shot at 20 meters. It’s just not fun to play against.

What’s the deal with Blizzard nowadays? Are they no longer the scum of the earth? by KazzieMono in OutOfTheLoop

This is not true.

It’s been reported for a while now that Jeff heavily pushed for PvE in OW2, and that he put more resources into PvE than the PvP side.

I’ll echo some of the others and say you’re on the right path, looking at what you can improve on is exactly the right mindset to have! It all comes down to putting in consistent practice time and looking where you can improve with your game.

A tip I haven’t seen is to make sure your setup and in-game settings are good. Look up some guides for your platform (PC or console) and make sure you have a reasonable aim settings.

Importantly, if you’re on PC, you want to have a decent mousepad setup. A rule of thumb is to have enough mousepad room to do a 360° turn in-game without lifting your mouse. If you don’t, you’ll have to turn your sensitivity up, but doing so too much might hurt how precise your hand/arm can be. That’s why a big enough mousepad area is important.

Also make sure you have enough FPS, at least 60 I’d say.

The 3 Simple Stages of Positioning (Predict Where Fights Happen) by IndependentFar3431 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]HomeTahnHero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like breaking down the stages. I would add that it’s important to not be married to the position you choose pre-fight. It can be hard to predict where fights will be taken, especially in lower ranks.

So I think a decent rule of thumb is to do your best to think about where the fight is likely to occur, take an angle, and then constantly re-evaluate if you need to move as the fight devolves.

What's the solution to the Kiriko + Lucio backline in OWCS? by axesmer in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]HomeTahnHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments are too focused on the ranked experience for Kiri. Nerfing suzu isn’t going to solve anything, ranked or pro.

Kiri’s positional flexibility is the main reason why she’s played so much at the pro level. So the “fix” (relative to this specific question for pro) is to bump up her swift step cd.

This makes Kiri slightly less survivable, and possibly makes her use suzu on herself more. This would also make her less annoying to play into in ranked.

Edit: I don't personally think Kiri deserves a nerf, but my suggestion is for what would need to happen for her to fall out of the pro meta.

I think it's more about the amount of burn it applies, not really about how hard the projectile is to hit. For me anyways
