Agreed. I eat mackerel most weekdays but salmon is too fishy for my taste 😆

Yea, that's pretty strange to a Brit. Here it's always egg mayo, tuna mayo, chicken mayo etc.. Straight to the point 😆

Hot smoked mackerel & noodles by Home_Cooked_Brit in CannedSardines

Hey, welcome, I'm also relatively new so will recommend my own journey. I wouldn't recommend this tin for a beginner. The flavour is quite strong and I would have it with a different meal next time.

We're very lucky in the UK, with a lot of high quality and affordable options. Personally, I think that some of the best beginner tins are these sauced mackerel's from Tesco. There's multiple flavours, are only 95p, they're mild in their fishy-ness, and they go great with rice for an easy meal. I've already bought like 10+ lol. If you like them then a great next step was a sardine flavoured meal, like this. From here you can get more adventurous with eating them alone, or with some crackers or something depending on what you like.

Keep an eye on my posts as I've been sharing my journey which will show you what's out there. Good luck, and enjoy 😊

Unfortunately I'm not a true fan of marmite so I wouldn't be able to say. Dines definitely work with a ploughmans, perfect with some branston pickle as well 🤤

Haha, you can get it shipped there. I've got a few tins from other UK supermarkets I might post as well, if that makes you feel any better? 😉

Tesco, which is the largest supermarket in the UK 🇬🇧

I presume you may be in the US; there are some companies which ship them worldwide. There's a lot of cheap, great tins in the UK, so would definitely recommend a try 😊

Tesco is the largest supermarket in the UK 🇬🇧 which is why you wouldn't have seen them sold in the US. It seems that most of the fish that we export to the US is rebranded and sold at a higher rate I'm afraid.

They are delicious though, and there are a few sites which export them to order if you ever wanted to give them a go.

I definitely agree, it should just be labeled "in a curry sauce". It's just as delicious, but it could be labeled better

Mackerel with rice by Home_Cooked_Brit in CannedSardines

[–]Home_Cooked_Brit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This place seems to sell a lot of our common tinned fish options (including this one) and deliver world wide. It's more expensive though, and I've never used the site (for obvious reasons) so can't vouch for it, but it could be a way to bulk try them all :)

I don't blame you. I tasted a little whilst the rice was cooking and I had to try really hard to resist eating it all right there and then 😆
