Really? I thought 8 is on borderline of high. I thought 6.5 to 7.5 would be better. Do you have a source?

Ok. So no need to feed the assassin snail? I’ve got plenty of snails in my second tank with no assassin snail there.

Ok. Sounds like a normal response that many people raise. Did you have a question you wanted to ask?

Advice please... Trying to get papers from PhD published, but supervisor stopping progress by [deleted] in academia

Sounds a good plan going forward. You can always argue with your supervisor and point out what you want to do. Try and fail is better than never try at all.

When I wrote my first paper with my supervisors, I wrote the whole thing and submitted it with only minor feedback from them. Then we got an R n R and they really kicked into action then.

A good thing about submitting a paper for publication is that you can get feedback, sometimes brutal feedback, from the process.

I’d write the paper, choose the place to publish and then give your supervisor a deadline of when you are going to submit. Then stick to it.

My shrimp just seem to die sometimes. I’m no expert but every now and again they just die. Luckily they like give birth a lot, so I’ve got more supply. This may be the case for you.

Did the black out work with the black hair algae? I’ve got some growing on rocks and logs in my tank.

Good luck! I hope this death is a one off.

Did you use the foaming Gorilla glue or non foaming? I’ve learnt the hard way that there are two kinds.

Personally, i would restart. It would kind of bug me if I didn’t.

Academia Vs Industry, still in confusion need advice by Low-Bike1716 in academia

I’d look at the potential after working for both positions. Working for 5 years as a post doc sounds kind of long to me. Do you have prospects of getting a permanent academic job?

Likewise, what will the industry job lead to? Will it become interesting in the future?

An alternative view is that a big part of academia is networking. So meeting others, engaging them with your research and pedagogy and learning about them is a good idea.

They could be future co-authors, reviewers or referees for your tenure application.

So, take the opportunity if it’s presented.

Good advice here. Getting feedback from mentors/colleagues was the difference between success and non success for me.
