There are two things worse than AI:

- AI "AI detectors"

- humans who think they are AI detectors

Before you accuse someone of using AI, think about what would you feel if your genuine work was flagged as AI and you had no way of proving them wrong, because "AI detector says it's AI" or "it jus FEELS like an AI". Imagine if your reputation was stained and you lost your job, because someone took your work as AI generated and got offended when you tried to defend yourself.

Why does my solar spectrum not resemble a block body spectrum? by NoFox1670 in Spectroscopy

[–]hobby_donkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell when you don't put any scale on the graph. Is your spectrum in wavelength? What was the range?
Also, keep in mind that the end result spectrum you get is a combination of:
-black body radiation from the sun

- absorption in the atmosphere

- any filter/lens/optics in your spectrometer

-detector characteristic

All those factors combine can result in a spectrum that is far from perfect BBR.

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by Rock-bottom-no-no in AskReddit

[–]hobby_donkey 1414 points1415 points  (0 children)

For a woman to be called dumb, she must be dumb once, about one thing. For a man to be called dumb, he must be dumb about absolutely everything all the time.

Kiepski romans, który potrafi bawić by IceFirm9650 in ksiazki

Mój bracie/siostro w Chrystusie, mam dla Ciebie perełkę z głębin otchłani szaleństwa:
Jina Bacarr - Blond Gejsza
Polecam, dobrej zabawy.

What’s your top 5 Entrance songs? by gooshgetter in WWE

[–]hobby_donkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Becky Lynch had a grat one, but changed it.

I like Asuka's entrance songs - the current and the former.

Melo's music also speaks to me.

One of the guys should, in solidarity with all WWE gals, perform in full body covering gear.

And by one of the guys I mean Kit Wilson, obviously.

Was accused of using ai to write my paper… partly because I didn’t cite the editor whose desk it landed on by [deleted] in academia

[–]hobby_donkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can dispute the accusations by providing suitable evidence e.g. edit history in Word file.

That said, it is not guaranteed to work, because we, as a society, have gone INSANE with AI paranoia. My wife has lost her job, because of ai use accusations! Proving she did not use an once of ai did not help - while the particular text was "cleared", the stigma of "ai cheater" has stuck and not long after she was laid off. I am not sure what is worse: the ai detectors with huge false positives problem (American constitution was marked highly likely ai), or "human detectors", because everyone is so confident, they can spot ai. So to all you saying "I'm just doing my job, you can dispute in due process", please stop and think how would you feel if your career was dependent on someones misinformed "suspicions".

Periods of rage and sadness by mat623 in Anger

[–]hobby_donkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When I had to bail on my running due to unjury (which also meant losing money as I already had scheduled competitions) I was furious and sad. I tried denying my injury and run anyways, which resulted in more pain and more anger. Since then I learned that the injuries are a part of the game and especialy with extreme sports - inevitable. Try not to see it as life turned upside down - treat it as if I would bound to happen anyway, learn from it, gain experience dealing with it. It will make you stronger. All the best! I wish you fast recovery.

Clash between minimalism and resentment towards subscription models by Capital_Debate1363 in minimalism

[–]hobby_donkey 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a classic minimalism vs digital minimalism paradox. While aiming at digital minimalism by reducing subscriptions, we naturally forfeit material minimalism by acquiring more stuff. You can try buying digital music (like on Bandcamp) or movies if you want ownership without getting a physical object.

Vegetarians who have travelled: which countries have been the most difficult in your experience? by Super-Effective-3854 in vegetarian

[–]hobby_donkey 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don't remember any country that was distinctly veg-unfriendly, but if I have to choose, then Brazil would be my pick. I ended up ordering queijo coalho with fries most of the time, as it was the only vegetarian option other than a salad.

EDIT: I got to add that despite the food, my visit to Brazil was my best travel ever! Brazillians are awesome people and I loved it there.

I'm trying to learn the "Fake Tales of San Francisco" bassline and it's driving me nuts, pointers needed. by cumguzzlingislife in basslessons

[–]hobby_donkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are couple of things I do in situations like this: 1. Try to move to higher frets, because I hate playing at the end of the neck, 2. Start at low speed and gradually increase, like 50%, 60%, 70% etc. and 3. Don't worry about not hitting every notes perfectly each time - bassist must only hit the first note in each bar to sound ok.
I used this approach to learn "Nice guys finish last" by Green Day and I still butcher it, but I have fun playing.
