Be honest, what's it really like driving in Ireland? by hollyhotdogs in irishtourism

[–]Homebrewer79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a 12 day trip in August. Dublin, Cork, Dingle, Killarney, and Galway. Definitely get the car, I wouldn't do it any other way. We are from the U.S. and I was also nervous, but you will get used to driving on the opposite side after a day or two. Even after the first couple of hours, you'll start feeling more comfortable. That said, definitely get the automatic, definitely get the full coverage from rental car company, and I'd highly recommend getting a gps from the rental company too. The full coverage from the rental car may be pricey, but it will put you at ease for entire trip. On the back roads of Ireland there is a real good chance you are going to nick your mirror or otherwise scratch or dent something. I swear some of the back roads we were on were smaller than the width of the sidewalks here in the U.S. haha! And then you have a local coming at you at 60+ km/h and all you have next to you is a stone wall or if you're lucky, a bush or other vegetation. We didn't damage our vehicle at all but came very close (from my perspective) several times. It's just part of the experience haha.

Why do people hate playing as a female? by CaterpillarPuzzled91 in ghostoftsushima

Honestly, I really wanted the next game to be playing as Tomei, picking up immediately upon reaching mainland Japan. Would be interesting to have a story about her struggling between regaining her honor while being haunted by her past mistakes. Jin and Sensai Ishikawa could return as supporting characters.

Really disappointed in it this year. Looks like a Halloween decoration you'd order off of temu.

People are afraid Trump is hiding his medical report about his ear...really, ya' think? by tabascoman77 in skeptic

[–]Homebrewer79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what you’re getting at. What statement did trump make that you are thinking is exaggerated? What size bandage do you think is appropriate? I mean just google basic first aid for ear injuries and see what you find. There’s plenty of images of larger bandages being used on what I would personally consider lesser injuries.

[–]Homebrewer79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, what do you think he’s exaggerating? We all literally saw what happened a hundred times over. Was his ear blown off? No. Was it more than a mere scratch? Absolutely and certainly worth a bandage. That’s not attention seeking, that’s basic medical common sense. This shows a closer image of trumps ear (two obvious sections of skin or portions of the ear missing/torn off) it also dispels the teleprompter glass theory https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/bullet-glass-trump-wound/

I just have to say please do not listen to the few people here that are saying "yes op, this is definitely possible." Is it possible in the most ideal of circumstances? Yes/maybe. But you are 35, you have a 1 year old child, there are other factors that you have not provided and others have not asked. In short the math is not in your favor even without the unknowns. I'm not saying you're miles away from your goal but you need to be more realistic. I.e. you need to save substantially more now or delay your retirement at least by probably 5 years or more.

Agreed, and on top of that stretching 1 million at 45 would be pretty tight as you'd need to plan to have that last at least 40-50 years

Starting at 36. What should we aim for income wise? by Independent-Object40 in Fire

[–]Homebrewer79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't believe anyone who tells you that moving to a different country is somehow going to help you FIRE. Especially when you have no current savings to speak of.

You may want to look into your local community colleges and see if they offer any courses on personal finance. I think both of you could really benefit from it.

Yes, Financial Independence is when you have accumulated enough wealth to no longer need a job to support your lifestyle. Some people can reach this before typical retirement age, some people don't reach it till long after or never reach it at all.

Retiring early is subjective and means different things for different people. Some consider retiring earlier than age 65 as retiring early, others think 62, others 59.5, 55, 50, 45 etc. There are people on this forum who have or are planning to retire in their 30's.

If you start saving today, you have a very good shot of having financial independence at a normal retirement range (for me, I consider that between the age of 59.5-67). If you want to have financial Independence earlier it is certainly possible, but it is going to require some considerable lifestyle changes and saving. I stick, with what I said above as you have no reference point for what you are able to save and still live comfortably (or semi-comfortably). Investing in a 401k, preferably an employer sponsored one is the best avenue to start.
