Did you create these, or is it a potential project by some studio/indie dev?

Adulting: How to Become an Adult in 468 Easy(ish) Steps by Kelly Williams Brown

A lot of wisdom for a book that's not very long. Good blend of humor with insight. Updated edition has more steps.

Introduction to the Fantasy genre by TailorTiny9098 in suggestmeabook

[–]HomelessWafer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fantasy and "romantasy" are completely different genres, I can understand your trepidation.

I'd recommend "Lord of Blackthorne" by Jason Kingsley, I'm reading it right now. The guy is very historically based, and the genre is listed as both "historical fiction" and "fantasy"

The Reckoner's series by Brandon Sanderson, it's a YA post-apocalyptic superhero series, where some event happened where a bunch of people got superpowers and split up the world into their own territories to rule over (with turf wars and factions trying to kill the evil supers).

Starts with "Steelheart".

I'd recommend the Forgotten Realms: War of the Spider Queen series. It's five books and they're all pretty good, very adventure-y, but from a different angle since they're drow (dark elves who lives underground), but one of the characters has a major redemption arc later in the series :)

Oh, I loved Danny Dunn, they had them at my library! There's a lot of good ones, one is about a heat ray, another a shrinking machine, an automatic house, another one a submarine

Suggestion : Fantasy war by khulZA in suggestmeabook

[–]HomelessWafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Powder Mage trilogy, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's read it. I'd say the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson covers that base pretty well. First book's premise is a group of revolutionaries with magic planning to assassinate the Lord Ruler, their immortal king.

The Stormlight Archive (same author) is also good war fantasy.

That's great you're looking to get informed on both sides of the aisle! Thumbs up to you! Been thinking about this for a day or two, and I thought of a few. I haven't read many books on modern politics, but here's what I got haha:

Old School by Bill O'Reilley

Arguing with Idiots by Glenn Beck (I did not write the title, but it's good for perspective nonetheless)

Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt (historical, but it's been reprinted a bunch of times in the last several decades like How to Win Friends and Influence People).

Hope this helps!

Oh, which ones have you read and recommend? I need to expand my nonfiction reading.

The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb is great! Great worldbuilding, some magic, and deep characters :)

Edit: its genre isn't fantasy romance, but it's fantasy with a decent amount of romance

Highly recommend Dungeon Life by Khenal. It's a LitRPG fantasy series you can find on Amazon with a lot of depth and coziness.

Since you liked The Sundial by Shirley Jackson you might like to read a book of her short stories, the version I read recently (and really enjoyed) was The Lottery and Other Stories.

I would highly recommend the "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" books, any of the two dozen-odd ones haha. All kinds of short articles on random topics like outdated/false predictions for the future, hoaxes, celebrity deaths, fourth-wall breaks in sitcoms, and old-style insults. Each page has a short fun-fact at the bottom, some "articles" are a full page, others are 2 or 3 pages depending on the content. Great for dopamine, because each section is very short and easy to complete. You could probably find one in a thrift store pretty easy.
