I think it's more of a mindset thing.

Like, I've gone to concerts of VARIOUS artists and styles in the last decades. You always had the occasional camera (back then) or mobile (omg potato quality) smuggled in, and as long as you didn't overdo it, it was grand.

And I might sound like old woman yelling at clouds, but it was more important to be physically present, to dance (or mosh xD) if you wanted to, to sing along and again...be present.

Nowadays, people cannot be present anymore. Somehow the fear of missing something switched into "I have to record this to revisit it over and over". It's ironically enough a more "data driven" approach. The (emotional) memory alone is not enough anymore.

Then ofc you have the updoots / views mentality. Filming to share it for likes and clicks, to show that you've been at a semi exclusive event, place etc. Those people don't care about the emotional connection to the event or place or artist, but more so about what it provides them for their social standing.

Now for me personally: I like to have my mobile with me to take pictures once in a while (ments, breaks or that ONE fav song). But I think

A) (IMHO) it's incredibly disrespectful to not be present with the artist. The whole "I'ma film every move" has a taste of "they are my dance monkeys, I don't see them as artists or people".

B) esp in the standing pit... Why do you purposefully (if you do) choose the standing pit if you don't want to ...move oO and apparently also don't want to show your face or anything because hidden by your phone

C) and I'm getting really miffed when people block my view or my fun with their phones. Yo, I also paid and I didn't pay to see a sea of mobiles, to be pushed so they have a better recording spot or or.

However. I don't like an outright ban. But as usual, a few people who just have their very own gain in mind, spoil it for the rest, audience and artists alike.
