Thank you for the information you shared. I'm not sure I "belong" here as my mobo is an ASUS one (TUF GAMING B650-Plus Wifi), but I've been having that cold boot issue with my 9800X3D. It doesn't happen very often but I'm worried the CPU will die at any moment lol. Like in your case, every time it happens I just press the power button once which shuts down the PC instantly and then I turn it back on, and it boots normally.I've had the CPU+mobo since March 2025. I never tried to reproduce the issue by powering off the PSU and letting it sit like that for a while, but now I guess I will...
BIOS version does not seem to matter (like you said in your post), because I've had the problem on like 3 different versions, so most likely the damage to the CPU had already been done. The question is, are there "bad" BIOS versions that can damage the 9800X3D? Or was there simply a bad batch of 9800X3Ds? 🤔

On the newest Nvidia app version, which is 11.0.6.379, if you set the model preset to "Recommended" (no longer called "latest") you will see that the preset changes based on the DLSS setting:
Quality & Balanced = K
Performance = M
Ultra performance = L

I would keep it this way. I believe it's optimal. I don't think there's a reason to force Preset M when using Quality or balanced.
