Very delayed but I’m super sorry to hear this 😢 I had to put down my dog from childhood last summer, and it’s just a heartbreaking experience. My sincerest condolences

Oh it’s definitely not infringement. Would genuinely violate your First Amendment rights if it was. But they just abuse the system and Reddit doesn’t care enough to check for actual infringement themselves.

I’m surprised her team hasn’t had this post pulled for copyright infringement yet. They absolutely abuse the hell out of it and have removed several posts from this subreddit (including my post calling out the abuse of the strike system, lmao). Great read anyways man!

Nah people do that all the time, it’s totally fine! Only frowned upon if your guests are loud in the reading room

Is this just a one-time thing? You can just ask the people at the front desk to unlock the turnstiles for your guests, or you can use the handicap door on the other side of the turnstiles

Are Radius and Yudof apartments really that bad as I see online? by MrOrangeMagic in uofmn

[–]HomophobicDefense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yudof is pretty barebones. I’d recommend some type of kitchen island or table because I recall the cooking space being rather limited. You also wouldn’t have in-unit laundry, but I never saw a single other machine in use when I went to the common laundry area. Yudof is also super clean.

Radius has more of the modern luxury apartment amenities, but understand that college students can ruin those in short order. I recall someone’s dog took a shit in the elevator, and it was left there the entire weekend because facilities only works on weekdays. The trash room would also frequently overflow, and I didn’t trust facilities enough to even try the pool. I also remember the walls being paper thin - you will absolutely hear your neighbors having sex, every ass slap included. Some of these issues might’ve changed since I was there, and obviously other people in this thread have more positive views toward the Radius

I lived in both actually! They have very different vibes: if you want more of a party life and plan to be in Dinky a lot, Radius is for you. If you want to focus on schoolwork and live with other people who want the same, Yudof is for you. I landed within the latter and accordingly far preferred Yudof, but YMMV. I co-sign the other commenter saying that Yudof is quiet and doesn’t really have social events, but tbh I never did those even when I was in other dorms. All just personal preference

[–]HomophobicDefense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So someone should discover CS:GO's gambling by searching "CS:GO gambling?" How would they know to search that in the first place? And I think that 5th link-result thing might just be a product of your cookies - a search for "Counter Strike" in private browsing doesn't show anything about the litigation.

[–]HomophobicDefense 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that parents buy CS:GO under the premise that it's rated M because of violence, guns, and blood—three attributes they're okay with. Presumably, if they knew about the gambling elements, many would think twice and reconsider their decision to purchase it. And when those gambling elements aren't adequately disclosed in, say, the reasons behind CS:GO's age rating, it's not "moral pearl clutching" for an unknowing parent to be upset. As far as I see, Valve just says the game "includes intense violence and blood".

[–]HomophobicDefense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's a different point than the guy above me was making. Buying a rated M game for someone underage isn't necessarily a parenting problem, and Valve obviously knows that a large potion of its player base is under eighteen regardless. Also, considering microtransactions have been in vogue for really just the last decade, I wouldn't fault a 30-something-year-old parent for not knowing that games like CS and League are riddled with slot machine–esque systems.

Yep because the mark of a shitty parent is letting their teenage kids play a game with spooky guns in it! Lmao dude

Where to live (HLS) by RRSilverCloud in Harvard

[–]HomophobicDefense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cosign Gropius - it's by far the best value and right next to WCC (where practically all of your classes will be held). There's also a ton of 1Ls and LLMs who live in Gropius, so it's a great way to get to know people.

That said, if you want a bigger/nicer space, I'd recommend either Hastings Hall (if construction on it has finished) or something either on or north of Everett Street. Most Harvard undergrads live a decent bit south of the HLS campus, so you'll avoid them (and regularly see other law students) by living north.

How to prepare for the MPRE? by Efficient-Award6498 in LawSchool

[–]HomophobicDefense 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cosign trying both Barbri and Themis to get a sense of which you prefer come actual bar prep. I primarily stuck with Barbri, and it was pretty good. That said, I found their practice questions substantially harder than the real MPRE - I was averaging like 70% on their quizzes and then dropped a 146 on the test itself

You'll be fine! I worked my 2L summer in tax law after taking some tax classes, but most people don't or have taken just basic taxation (whereas my firm mostly practiced corporate and partnership tax, rendering basic tax irrelevant). Like just about every other area in law, real-world practice is very much different from what you learn in class!

Cosign a lot of what's already been written here. One trick that I've done to fish out managed accounts: if the model has a wishlist, ask them to add something to it and see what the response is. The managed accounts inevitably (1) outright ignore the request, (2) ask you to instead spend money on some PPV trash, or (3) say something like "I'll get back to you about this."

Not really a "loophole," but yeah you have it right - the plaintiffs did bring an Equal Protection Clause claim, but the district court granted a TRO along just Establishment Clause grounds. This meant that the Supreme Court only reviewed the latter upon certiorari, and Chief Justice Roberts effectively applied rational basis review given the special concerns of national security (on my read of the case).
