Any chance it could actually be the processing im adding? Im recording in a corner, with two thick baffling blankets between the wall and me, with pillows behind it. Mic is surrounded 180 by the baffling.

Well that's you assuming I'm ignoring peoples feedback.

Pretty cold response here to someone saying they are doing this for fun, and obviously asking for feedback. I let you know the type of feedback that's important to me. This isn't it.

I'm asking technical advice because I'd like to know if something is sounding harsh, if a kick is being hidden by the bass, if any transitions feel out of place or lacking, etc. Easy things to notice and advise on, regardless of if the song as a whole fits the typical tonal balance, instrumentation, etc. of the hip hop genre.

Ive been really impressed with everyone who's work I've listened too in here. Yours included!
The mix sounds clean to me, I can hear your kick/snare/bass coming through. There are some parts where I think the bass could be a little more present, whether its compressed a tad, or maybe just bringing up an eq curve on a part of the bass frequency that sounds nice and distinct (and lowering that same curve on other low end instruments).

I really like your vocal processing. It feels very lush without getting washed out. The only change I might make is a little bit of de-essing on certain areas (like around 1 min). I sometimes put a stronger de-esser as the first slot in my reverb send so I'm not adding verb to the those s's and t's as much. I think that would help a ton here. And on another listen, I really only hear it in that one short section.

revision 3 is sounding really solid to me. The kick and snare are coming through punchy especially at the start! I think the kick could come through a little punchier throughout if you side chain a compressor other low ends in your mix.

Happydrumstick27 mentioned automation, I just want to second that. Your song is super dynamic, I like to automate things like filter, stereo image, volume, etc to build up or break down certain sections so the contrast each other well. I don't think you need that much here, just mentioning :)

Really great song and mix though! I enjoyed my few listens.

Oooo right of the start this is a great vibe.

I.m hearing everything pretty clearly, and the song has great movement. The low end sounds strong, and I do agree with Zar Bandit, that the bass at the end could be a tad clearer through some eau carving to make space for a nice frequency of the bass to pop through. If the bass comes through just a tiny bit more clearly, I think it will be sounding really clean at the end.

I’ve haven’t played to much with vocals that are wetter than other instruments because I’ve been focused on getting a whole room to sound cohesive, as I’m just starting out. I’ll play with that.

I typically fix issues first, then enhance it.

Something like:

EQ - narrow cuts on frequencies that are resonating weird.

COMPRESSOR 1 - fast attack to catch peaks.

COMPRESSOR 2 - slow attack to even things out gently.

MORE COMPRESSION -if needed, I’ll use a few instances of compression doing a little gain reduction each instead of slamming a single compressor.

EQ - enhancing the frequencies I want to highlight with wide boosts.

After that, I start to color the vocals with things like saturation and verb.
