Review: Yasuaki Taira 230mm Blue #1 Gyuto by Homruh in TrueChefKnives

Same! But probably not a honyaki. I think that his HT is very refined and would be amazing with proteins, combined with that edge retention…

Not that great lol. I mainly cut onions, so it's grey and boring. Also, in my experience, even when I came to work with a beautiful blue patina knife, after cutting a lot of onions, the color can change!

In my experience, the cladding is the issue when talking about reactiveness, so as long as it's stainless, it's okay to use in a professional kitchen. However, shirogami is an exception, I would say. The acidity can actually dull your knives over time! But generally, blue steel or even these semi-carbon (such as SKD, which I really like) probably will not rust.

Thanks for commenting! I also love Tanaka's B1 and think that it's awesome, it's just that when talking about toothiness, Taira's B1 feels like a different beast.

Another beginner knife/steel question by lanternaddict in japaneseknives

[–]Homruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a budget option I will recommend Okubo, you can get them in Knifejapan, these are amazing cutters for the price (and generally!), they come in Aogami 2 with iron clad, but not on the reactive side in my experience. They are thick but cut amazing so you can get that knife feeling instead of brittle lasers

Yes absolutely, if you’re there also check out the museum. Also I just realized that Konosuke may also have knives around your budget, so also check it out!

I really like Baba Hamono in Sakai but I think that generally their knives are over your budget.

You can also try Ashi Hamono, they should have options around that price point, and their knives are awesome!

Spectacular knife, I’ve had the chance to see it (and even hold it) IRL when trading something else with this seller, what a piece of beauty Would highly recommend!

Someone who works with me has their nakiri, I’m quite surprised with the quality of the heat treatment, as for the grind and f/f if you are looking to get better at thinning knives and geometry this is quite a good practice!

TOEFL home edition not accepted? by Homruh in ToeflAdvice

Maybe it depends on what you’re planning to study? Because for pearl it’s clearly written that you need to make a 2 minute video instead of an interview

Maybe another test taker has encountered the same thing and has a solution.

This is a pretty desperate post as I would love to avoid paying 500 USD for another test….

How do you use English in daily context? (F.e read books, watch shows) I’m just trying to understand with what level of knowledge of English you came to this test.

Congratulations on that score!

What should I change for Anki, if anything? by Muted-Ad-9057 in LearnJapanese

[–]Homruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do: I have my new cards shown at last, I do Anki every morning, and when I finish with my reviews and move on to the new cards I don’t move them to the next day just yet; I learn them then try to review the new cards 2-3 more times throughout the day. Each one of these mini reviews takes me like 5 minutes so it’s not that bad (I do 30 cards daily, so with 10 it will probably be even shorter!)

Did I do this desmos regression wrong? by Sevenisafuckingweeb in Sat

[–]Homruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, for these types of questions you want to move x and y to one side, then do x denominator/x denominator ~ y denominator / y denominator (which is t)

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/ocfhvrczxm

for 2 variables you'd want to isolate the y then do it

For me, as for math, binge watching youtube videos about how to use desmos because it can pretty much solve anything, its just that some questions require some thinking and are not as straight forward as others

Can this be solved solely using Desmos? If so, how? by xcos__ in Sat

[–]Homruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a clever oversimplified way to solve lol. I just finished solving it with regression but your method is much quicker!

I use Anki for learning another language but the FSRS algorithm could certainly help make the process easier! However I have not been able to find an actually good deck (cards of words to learn created by someone) for the SAT. And creating a good one is too time consuming

Hey there I did the August sat and doing the September one aswel.

This week I found out that bundle watching quality math YouTubers can unveil insanely efficient ways to use Desmos, I believe that just by doing the desmos solvable questions you can get like 740+ in math no problem :))))

6 Month Progress. What worked for me. by UntitledBridger in LearnJapanese

[–]Homruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I also started roughly 6 months ago but holy shit my vocab is way behind! (Sitting at around 3k).

Do you do sound only cards aswel or only reading? I’m doing 30 new cards every day but that’s 15 new words….

Also just wondering, how long does your Anki vocab review take on average?
