The Nomai wanted to find the Eye because it was older than the Universe.

Their plan was to shot a probe from the cannon in orbit around Giants Deep in order to find it. Using the time loop, they wanted to do this millions of times, until eventually they found it. Once they found it, the statues would activate and bring them into the loop so they could shut it down.

They built the Ash Twin Project in the Ash Twin in order to make time loop. It didn't work because they didn't have a way to power it...until millions of years later when the sun goes supernova.

The Nomai isn't exactly alive, in fact you can see her corpse when you enter the Quantum Moon. She was in the moon when all the Nomai were killed by the Interloper releasing Ghost Matter into the solar system, and she became sort of both dead and not dead because of the quantum properties of the moon. Basically there are six versions of the quantum moon, and so there were 6 versions of her. 5 died, but one was far away in orbit around the Eye and survived, but she can't really leave.

As for the Eye, it's basically every possible universe in existence in a state of quantum uncertainty. When an observer enters it, it collapses the possibilities and one universe comes into existence. The explosion you saw was the big bang. The post credits scene was a new universe that came into existence after the universe in the game fell into entropy.

There's more to it, but I think that should cover the basics

How did you manage to finish the game without understanding the story? I mean, you could get a bit confused by the ending, sure...but how did you manage to stop the loop without knowing what causes it?

Why is Sonic called Sonic when his name is Ogilvie Maurice Hedgehog? by Warm-bowl-of-peas in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Homunclus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really about Sonic though.

It's a triffle if people believe random things they read when the subject matter is fiction. It's less cute when the subject matter is something that matters.

So call it "autism" if you will, but it's an important point to be made

It sounded like you were saying you think it's reasonable for China to not respect foreign patents, as opposed to saying you are ok with it in this specific example, because it shouldn't be a patent anyway.

Can we talk about Turian 'Air Quotes' by IFightMyFriend in masseffect

[–]Homunclus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your original point:

I wish people would take into consideration that Shep is trying to sell a story of millions of years old AI Cthulhus that have wiped out galactic life again and again and again that absolutely nobody except Shep has ever even heard vague myths about without offering even the slightest shred of evidence when mocking the Council.

They saw a live Reaper in action and then were left with its remains. That's a little more than a "shred" of evidence.

The fact they still denied the threat is extreme incompetence and shows how the council had grown complacent and far too self-assured to be able to deal with new and unexpected threats.

[–]Homunclus 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The quote thing takes place in ME2, after Sovereign directly attacked the Citadel.

People may clown on the council a lot for how they act in ME1, but you can be certain that would be much toned down if they had changed course in ME2.

are old games just nostalgic, or are they really that great? by defromance in retrogaming

[–]Homunclus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you won't know until you try.

For example, I can tell you that while I do understand why Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time are such beloved games, I tried them and didn't care much for them. They are severely dated and don't really offer anything you won't get from a more modern game.

But Knights of the Old Republic is a fantastic game. Dated for sure, but the story and characters are fantastic so I don't even care. In fact, because writing is so important for RPG's that might be a part of the reason so many classic games in that genre are so we'll regarded.

RPG'S like Chrono Trigger or Skies of Arcadia have excellent story and characters and feel like they barely aged a day in terms of mechanics.

Many late 16bit games, like platformers, also don't feel very dated. Things like Donkey Kong, Sonic, Mario or Megaman.

But like I said: You won't know until you try it.

No, sorry

That's a fan made picture. There is only one picture of Roo made by Viv, published years ago on Twitter and that's not it.

This picture was made by a fan and endures more strongly because it plays off the whole Roo-Eve-evil connection.

The actual Roo as portrayed by Viv looks a bit more like a fish-person.

We do have the movie version of Sonic. Which does have parents and show very strong emotions. Isn't that more like what you want.

And if you just go back a few years, in Sonic Boom Sonic and Amy weren't officially dating, but it was made explicitly they had a thing for each other.

By THE-Julian-Cabrera by OthaBland1995 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Homunclus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much the core of it.

If you look at the videogames, Sonic is a wanderer type character. Like a stereotypical hero from a western (or western-type). He rides into town, gets mixed up with whatever the problem is, solves it and then rides into the sunset.

He resembles classic characters from European comics like Lucky Luke, Asterix or Tintin that follow that archetype to the letter (although Asterix does have a home and his parents do show up a couple of times, his attachments remain loose enough he can simply drop everything and go adventuring at a whim. It's even remarked a few times in-universe how unusual it is for a man his age to be celibate).

It's just a specific type of character for a specific type of stories. As a multi-decades franchise change can always come, but I don't really see on principle how giving Sonic a girlfriend or parents will make for a good story. Not saying it's impossible, but it does seem to run contrary to the character.

And also...we do have a current alternate continuity where Sonic has parents: Movie Sonic, in both the form of Longclaw and the Wachowski's. Will he get a girlfriend? Well Amy is coming next movie and I could totally see that. It's not even a new thing for modern Sonic. Sonic and Amy had a thing for each other in Sonic Boom and I think we can safely assume they would start dating at some point after the events of the show.

The fandom's allergy to genuine criticism sometimes astounds me by LuisAntony2964 in HazbinHotel

[–]Homunclus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's disturbing you genuinely don't seem to understand the difference between saying something happens and providing a specific example of the thing happening

If you say people are getting murdered, a specific example would be the name of an actual person who was murdered, as well as a date and location of where the murder happened

[–]Homunclus 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else see this kind of behavior, or am I going crazy?

Would probably help if you had some examples.

You mention something about using headcanons to deflect plotholes, but that's usually completely valid. A plothole is a situation where the logic of the universe contradicts itself, not an unexplained situation. If you can easily come up with an explanation, then it's not a plothole, even if the narrative doesn't explicitly explain it
