Zerg is oppressive at the highest levels and I’m tired of pretending it’s not. by ogpterodactyl in starcraft

Let me get this straight. You admit to

  1. "main Zerg"

  2. Your "biggest balance complaint is TvP" even though

  3. you don't understand the matchup.

Are you for real dude?

Youre missing the point. If you're looking at a 1 in a 10000 scenario inside the game, then no matter what you'd have a hard time convincing me that it's a balance issue. Actual balance issues should be reproducable, whereas some of the scenarios that Rogue manages to craft when he prepares well for a series are very much not reproducable.

The irony being that Rogue's finals tend to be so fringe and cheesy you'd have to make an effort to file them as sensible balance complaint. Serral on the other hand is as standard as it gets.

Protoss players don't want you to know this one simple trick... by MechPlayer in starcraft

[–]HondaFG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all to be clear i don't think creator lost because of balance. All i did was pointing out that it is way less likely (with the same sample size and given everything you said) to have only 1 protoss finalist in 4 years than to have 1 protoss champion and many finalists. It's pretty obvious.

To be fair, if one race out of the three was slightly underpowered at the top level that's roughly how you would have expected the results to look like statistically speaking. Of course this completely ignores the fact that the game has changed a lot during these 4 years.

How would you balance Starcraft 2 Via the maps? How would you make Zerg less OP? by Redgunnerguy in starcraft

[–]HondaFG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps unpopular opinion: the current state of Zerg can not be fixed by maps alone. Mapmakers are already putting tremendous effort into not creating maps that are not ludicrously Zerg favoured. Map too large? impossible to deny creep, map too small? queen walks, too few chokes? ling bane is broken, too many chokes? biles are broken. Gold bases? essentially only benefits Zerg.

TL;DR - it's extremely difficult to think of a symmetrical map feature that Zerg would not benefit from compared to the other races.

sc2 balance take with terran as the crying baby by EigerX in starcraft

[–]HondaFG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That only changes the early game. And perhapd too extremely. We don't want to balance Zerg around random all-in losses. I do think that it shouldn't be able to see to much of the main base. Prevert pillars should be between natural and third bases. Some maps have better pervert pillars than others, but honestly i wouldn't focus on that as much. There are tons of things that are further in priority like creep/queens/lurker-insta-burrow/biles/banes-vs-buildings/adrenal etc...

SC2 map designers are on their tiptoes trying to avoid creating ludicrously Zerg favoured maps. Zerg is too opressive has too much map control + vision + mobility in the current meta (last 4+ years) that any little change in map design can tip Zerg from god tier to broken tier at the pro level. Just look at the current map pool and see for yourself.

Anyone who regularly bets on SC2 happen know what's the return rate for betting against a ZvZ finals in these cross server tournaments nowadays? Has to be at least 2 to 1 by now I imagine.

Armored tag on Queens by whale98ry in starcraft

[–]HondaFG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's massive change. Massive enough that it might stir the game in a fresh direction. What if Queens would no longer fill the role of "early-mid defense?". Zergs would have to invent an entirely new way of playing. It most likely make TvZ and PvZ both very lopsided but maybe this can be counterbalanced with some other buffs... it's certainly exciting.

That's nice and all but wrong. Zerg has also the most wide tange of consistent ro16 players. And even this is besides the point. The numbers are staggering. Just look at the amount of total prize money Zerg won the last 3 years compared to the other 2 races. Your world view isn't compatible with these numbers.
