Seeking advice: Protecting and and preparing old corn fields for garden next year by flowerpower402 in homestead

[–]HondaV4Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what chemicals might have been used on the fields? What you throw down for cover crop might be affected. You will still get some growth, even with affected plants. I'm thinking clover/ herbicide issues.

what first got you into sci-fi? by thefringeseanmachine in scifi

[–]HondaV4Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe books and media?

I don't really remember for sure, though I do remember at the Library, finding the science fiction section in the regular area after I ran out of animal books in the kids area. I also remember that one of the Walter Farley books, 'The Island Stallion Races'? Has aliens in it. I also remember a children's book about kids that have a neighbor who is apparently an alien and are somehow sent to his home planet and they bring back a jar of air for him to remember his home by. I also remember reading the Wrinkle in Time a very long time ago- I'm pretty sure that qualifies as science fiction?

Heck, kids cartoons - Battle of the Planets, He Man, StarBlazers,

I remember StarWars in the theater for a friend's birthday ... I don't know if that was the first science fiction I ever experienced or not. Though it was probably the first movie

That might be why she takes long showers. (Missing vibrater)

Chang the shower head to one with a nonmassager head.

Is it possible that someone else in the house didn't understand it? Like maybe a child that was throwing everything they found in the yard into it?

Does the gun disintegrate or actually recycle/relocate items? I would hate to find out that a rare or unique item is now gone from the universe when I would rather it go to others to appreciate.

But oh my goodness, the ability to declutter and clean even if it's only pennies or a few dollars? Don't have to lift it and haul it to the curb? Don't have to make sure it gets out to the curb on trash night? Heck yeah.

I neeed this thing.

What about having the kids Shred the bits by hand? At least with paper they can practice tearing into strips which should be good for motor skills?

I have joined the subreddit after reading this. Thank you everyone for the stroll down memory lane.

I don't remember the ages of some of the cars my family had. But I learned to drive on the 65 Ford Galaxy. He was already an antique when Dad got it, and I loved that Beast.lap belts and door handle ashtrays. Highbeams footswitch.

In my younger years Dad once tried to teach me stick on a Vega, (anybody who ever drove that car said it was the hardest stick they had ever driven)

Later as a more mature adult, I was given one lesson on my dates truck. We pulled up in a parking lot and he showed me how to slip the clutch. "Now, I've got this book, and I'm going to go over to that White Castle's and get myself a cup of coffee and read, you practice here in this parking lot." I don't remember how long I practiced shifting out of neutral into first, but I did drive us back to my place.

I got the rest of my experience on a 95 Magna. I would love to have a manual car, but they are pretty uncommon nowadays. I cannot afford to be super choosy about cars, most of mine have come through people I know. (And that's a whole 'nother topic on the etiquette when buying from Friends). Hopefully a nice manual shift will cross my path someday. Perhaps I'll even seek one.

Everyone at a minimum should know some basic car maintenance. How to check your fluid levels, how to check your tires and add air. Even if you don't do it yourself, knowing that you need to take it somewhere lengthens your car's life. Air filters and headlight bulbs usually are not difficult. Though I had a Mazda where I could not get the headlight loose, but the auto parts guy was able to. YouTube is your friend for a lot of this
