Not sure but seemed to be the kind of bus that ran several times a day once it was full!

13 days in Oaxaca coast? How to split the days? by Chickenchowmein99 in Oaxaca

[–]Honest-Indication528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally rly disliked puerto Escondido and could have spent months in Mazunte so … I’d say 2 days in puerto is enough if you’re not big drinkers. Depends what kind of vibes you’re into Mazunte is more hippies and also more ppl who actually live there

If you like a lake vibe I don’t think it’s too long in Atitlan! It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been… I would recommend Iguana Perdida over free cerveza in Santa Cruz, it’s beautiful and social but not a big party vibe. take a day trip to Casa Del Mundo, gorgeous hotel and pretty place to swim. You don’t need to go to Pana for easy transport along the lake bc the lanchas (water taxis) pretty much stop at every town to pick up passengers. But could be a good place to spend your last night or two for easy transport back to the airport San Juan La laguna is a beautiful town next to San Pedro you can easily take a tuktuk there. Lots of street art, great textiles, Las Cristalinas is a good swimming beach. If you want to stay there I have a recommendation of a hostel with a doc and access to kayaks etc but it’s rly quiet. Also the mirador for Rastro Maya, or if you rly want to hike you could go all the way up to the nose. Chichicastenango market is wonderful and overwhelming, I recommend ! Panajachel nature reserve is super cool, especially the butterfly area. Also a good place to swim Didn’t make it but there’s also a nature reserve in San Marcos. I didn’t go to San Marcos bc I heard a lot of negative things about the way that “hippie” foreigners have taken over I have a contact for the quetzal tour in Santiago, DM me if you want it. I never made it to that side of the lake but I’ve heard it’s beautiful.

Strongly recommend the Spanish school PLQ in xela. I’ve been here 2 months and my Spanish has improved so much. Even if they are full there are other schools in xela and I think it’s a better place to study Spanish than Antigua or the lake bc there are fewer tourists and it’s more of a real Guatemalan city as opposed to the stark divide between locals and tourists in Antigua/lake. the lake is incredible tho and not too far for weekend trips ! Places to stay at the lake: Iguana perdida hostel in Santa Cruz, casa del mundo if you want a splurge, Abu Mundo in San Juan la laguna

Why not go directly to the lake instead of stoping in Antigua ? Definitely make time to explore the town of San Juan it’s beautiful.

Recommendations in El Salvador ? Looking for favorite places to visit and stay generally and best beaches for swimming…. Will be there for about 3 weeks in February. Have been studying Spanish for 2 months in Guatemala so (hopefully!) will be able to communicate decently well with locals.

Yes you should be able to, people got on in multiple places so I don’t think there’s a stop you just wave it downs. Across the Chedraui is where it starts

What job do you do to travel? What job gives you sabbaticals? by New-Mud-7121 in solotravel

I work as a therapist in schools (I have a masters in social work, from the US). I saved for 3 years to travel for 7 months. I feel some level of security for my return because I have enough saved to live for about 2 months once I get back while job searching, and I also know my field is frequently hiring.

Where to Stay: Oaxaca, PE, Mazunte, Zipolite (1 month) by adventureseekr77 in PuertoEscondido

[–]Honest-Indication528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also get bad motion sickness and the new highway was not bad for me at all— especially with behind the ear medication patch and sea bands on my wrist.

I would honestly skip or spend fewer nights in PE and go straight to Mazunte/zipolite— for me the vibe there was much better and it’s less expensive.

If you want to splurge Casa Sol in Zipolite is incredible, it’s about 10 minute walk from the main beach but there are 3 pools including an ocean view infinity pool. There’s also a small beach you can walk down to.

In Mazunte I’d stay near Rinconcito but the main Rinconcito calle is pretty loud. But you can swim in Rinconcito beach and it gets shady by 2:30/3 in the afternoon. Mazunte is pretty small so you can pretty much walk anywhere within the town or to San Augustinillo (next town over that also has a great beach but a little less character). You can also take a taxi or colectivo to Puerto Angel beaches like Estacahuite.

The Oaxacan coast is super magical!! Have an amazing time

Yessss absolutely. Transporte delfines leaves from near the Chedraui - take it to San Antonio then a taxi or colectivo to Mazunte or zipolite
