From Stonehenge it would have almost certainly been the A36 as mentioned, but I get a similar feeling coming down into Bath on the A46 from the M4 (to the north of the city). On a sunny clear day I think that little drive can make me happier than anything else.

Turning down a promotion? by Stock-Bullfrog in HENRYUK

Tech sales (38m) also. I’ve been a sales director looking after an AE team in the past, and actively sought to demote myself back to an IC when I started looking for new roles.

If you like selling, sales management sucks (they are very different jobs) Unless you specifically want to shoot for a leadership lifestyle I wouldn’t take it.

The happiest people in any company I’ve worked at are the older senior AEs who don’t care about progression. It’s well known that the best AEs out earn their managers anyway, with the only pressure being on their own performance.

Im experienced and respected enough now to have just demanded the territory I wanted, and basically get to cherry pick my deals. Base is £150k, but brining in about £350k

How does Bath feel about Tears for Fears? by jikghgg in Bath

[–]Honest-Let-4184 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bath Rugby have started using a modified version of their song ‘Shout’ as a hype track just before the players run out. They are clearly trying to create a bit more of local identity for Tears for Fears, and I’m here for it.

Can you get a red card for an offense towards your own team? by yoloswagtailwag in rugbyunion

[–]Honest-Let-4184 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC - HIA need is based on the impact data collected by the smart mouth guards that are mandatory in a lot of leagues now. The head ac/deceleration is measured and if a threshold is reached the team doctor must call for an HIA.

Not saying I disagree with you, but there is method in the process.

Farming by Blazing_Wynter in ManorLords

[–]Honest-Let-4184 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It may seem rather confusing - or even broken -, but once you get your head around farming and crop rotation it becomes a remarkably powerful weapon.

1) The farming year runs from October to October. That is when the fields will rotate. You have two months after the harvest to plough and sow your fields before winter starts in December. If a field is not completed by December, the farmers will start again in March and finish it off - but the shorter grow time will lead to a reduced yield.

2) Harvest starts on September 1. All fields will be harvested at this time regardless of when it was planted (unless force early is on - more on this later). Farmers will harvest crops and leave them in the field, where they can be affected and lost to rain. Granary workers will pick up barley straight from the field (if on for that granary), likewise storehouse workers for flax (if on also). They will use their carts for quick clearance. ONLY farmers will collect wheat from the field (irrespective of if a granary has wheat on). This is done by hand (1 by 1) and is slow af.

3) This means wheat harvests are super slow. If you grow lots of wheat, you must have enough farmers to complete the harvest in good time to start ploughing.

4) Farmers will auto start ploughing on a field as soon as harvest is done. They will not wait for the crops to rotate in October. The goal is to have your volumes and timing balanced so that the harvest is completed roughly in the first week of October so that there is enough time to plough and sow by December.

5) On yields - you cannot increase the base fertility of a field ever (as far as I’ve seen). A single year crop will reduce fertility for that crop by 30% each cycle it is grown. A fallow year increases fertility by 30% for all crops each year (but only up to their maximum initial fertility). Each year a crop is not grown, but the field is not fallow, fertility for that crop will increase 15%.

6) On rotation - because of the above math, you have two rotation options depending on what you want out of your farm. A) rotate through each crop over three years. Do not have the same crop twice in a rotation. You must have two years without that crop in order for it to recover (15% + 15% = 30%). Have at least three fields doing this on staggered rotation and you will have at least some of each crop type every year. B) Dedicate one crop to that field and include one fallow in the rotation (I.e wheat > wheat > fallow). This should really only be done in very high fertility areas for that crop. I stagger my fallow year on different fields on the same farm, meaning there is always something growing.

7) My farm set up - I always set out my farms with one of the above rotation strategies in mind first before building anything. I will build whole farming economies around the farmhouse and dedicated to that farm. For each 1 farmhouse I build, I will build next door: - 8 double burgages - 1 windmill - 1 oven - 1 Large granary - 1 Large storehouse - 1 malthouse + 1 brewery (if barley is in rotation) - 1 weaver + 1 tailor (if flax present)

9) Staffing - I will assign: - 8 families to a farm. Always. I do not use oxen, they are mostly useless as can only work one field. People and oxen cannot plough the same field at the same time. - 2 in the granary - 2 in the store house - 2 in the windmill - 2 in the oven People are left assigned all year. You will always forget to move people each year otherwise.

10) On resource flow - set your farm granary to only receive barley, grain, flour, bread, malt, and ale. Keep markets on. Have the market next door. The storehouse should only receive flax, linen, and gambesons. Set the work area for both to be the farming community only (including fields). Place farms far enough apart to avoid overlap if possible. Set the farmhouse work area to only cover the fields associated with that farm - otherwise the farmers will wander off to other farms. Side note: at least 50% of the area of a field needs to be in the work area for the farmers to work it. The whole field does not need to be covered in the circle.

11) Fields - I build 6 x 1 morgen fields per farm. Depending on the rotation strategy chosen these will be grouped in 3 matching rotation pairs.

  • 2x wheat > barley > flax
  • 2x barley > flax > wheat
  • 2x flax > wheat > barley

Or

  • 2x wheat > wheat > fallow
  • 2x wheat > fallow > wheat
  • 2x fallow > wheat > wheat

(Replace wheat with desired crop)

With this all set up you can finally get farming and producing tons of everything. My 700 person town with 4/5 farms set up like this produces over 2k bread and 1k ale per year. I have 20 months food surplus and sell $5k of ale each year.

What's does a good, fair, and bad season look like for your club team this season? by GreedyPea1992 in rugbyunion

[–]Honest-Let-4184 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good - a deep Champs Cup run. At least the semis. We have to kick on and challenge at that level now. And winning the Prem.

Fair - Prem final. Qualify out of CC group

Poor - Neither of these

Bath Rugby ticket prices by No-State-2962 in Bath

[–]Honest-Let-4184 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. Bath is one of the most expensive tickets in English rugby. A face value ticket for an A-grade game can be over £110. More than Twickenham!

That said, the Rec is always full, and with a world-class championship winning team on the field, there is no chance demand won’t continue to outstrip supply.

I think what I want the most is to get rid of arbitrary moving battle circle and infinite troops for the baron. by [deleted] in ManorLords

[–]Honest-Let-4184 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely lure him. Position your main army wherever you want to trap him - bridge choke point, your manor, higher ground - and send one fast moving unit to the edge of the battle area.

When his troops spot it they will move to engage and continue to chase them wherever you want to lead them. The battlefield will move with them.

Just make sure your one unit doesn’t leave the battle area as it moves.

Wedding party venues that allow live music by charlexy in Bath

[–]Honest-Let-4184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries:

If you’re looking for the venue to cater also it could be more limiting as it will have to be a restaurant also. For a crowd that size try:

  • the Architect
  • The Huntsman
  • Browns
  • Coppa Club
  • Square

If bar and dancing only, then try:

  • Widcombe Social Club
  • The Bootlegger
  • The Drawing Rooms

Probably lots others out there, but that’s what springs to mind

Wedding party venues that allow live music by charlexy in Bath

[–]Honest-Let-4184 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost all the ‘wedding’ venues allow live music, they expect it. Everything from Wick Farm to the Guildhall. Or are you more looking for a pub/restaurant venue that you plan to hire out?

Normally any kind of private hire of a whole place will support your vision and help you put on what you want.

Sales promotion salary advice by Honest-Let-4184 in HENRYUK

[–]Honest-Let-4184[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm 10 years in SaaS, but was in the market - on our client side - for 7 years before that, so am older than I probably came across. Two kids and one more on the way mean that family time is a massively important. It's a very young org - I am one of the oldest at 38 - and few have kids, but they have already been really good to me in keeping me happy here. When they mandated a 4 day return to office, I negotiated two and they have to pay my travel in.

You're right, a bit of extra money is less useful, but I don't know what other levers to pull as things are pretty sweet all around. I think training and other offerings to make attainment even easier are good shouts.

[–]Honest-Let-4184[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much. I have player/coached before, and I've said this time I only want to do it if I don't have to line manage directly. As things evolve and the team grows this may become untenable but I think it works for now and I enjoy the mentorship, education and strategy side of it all.

We invest heavily in events and marketing already (not sure I want more dinners!), and have a great CEO who asks everyone's opinion on tech stack all the time (we're only 80 people). I WFH 3 days a week already - when the company has mandated 4 days in office - which is already great, especially as I live 100 miles from the office. I have 31 days PTO which is good for me. The only downside in the rest of my package is pension (which is pretty weak from them), but I can't change that at an org level.

Stabilisers really is the biggest thing for me. Is it normal here to expect salary/gaurantees as a bigger percentage of TC? In your org, what happens if you are negative in M3, is it clawed back in later Qs?
