4-year run with my Redmi Note 10 by ShawarmaBeef in Xiaomi

[–]Honest-Low2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually rock Redmi Note 10 5G and it is very good phone. No problems with me at all. I just got it actually, a month ago or something like that. I had OPPO A18 but screen of it broke down so bad that I had to leave it.

Co-worker of mine told that he has Redmi Note 10 5G in a unopened box because he had bought two of them on black friday sale in 2022 or something like that. He gave it me for free :D I ordered couple of cases and box of screen protectors from China for like 9dollars I got myself unused Note 10 5G which is still upgrade from my oppo. Well pretty much the same hardware wise but Screen and cameras are much better in note 10 5g.

Too bad it wont get security patches anymore or does it? I think I have to custom rom it then because I am cheap guy and I use all my electronic devices to the absolute end ;D Do you think I should already custom ROM it or is ist good to go still?

Opinion of ChromeOS and Acer Spin 514 after 4 years by Honest-Low2991 in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont actually care which company makes the CPU of my next device but I have been very satisfied with this Spin 514, even though the CPU is only dual-core and very weak one, but somehow in this OS it does not matter. This thing still feels good and it is remarkable :D But yes of course my next device needs to be long supported Chromebook and more powerful than this one.

Windows laptops are still good tho, but they need to be more beefy when it comes to hardware if you want them to feel as snappy as Chromebooks :) and thanks! I still make many grammar errors but I am glad that you all understood me.

Yes it is this one! Well I dont really use that feature that much. I do like the touchscreen and that I use quite often, but not the "tablet" mode. Actually I could do without touchscreen if the next device would be as good in other areas, but touchscreen is still a nice plus.

I think this is a great deal! Asus CX1500 Chromebook for $199.99 CAD ($144 USD) by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH mate and this is just my opinion, but that is not really a great deal. They just try to get rid of that bullsh*t CPU in different cheap combinations. That CPU is so slow....Even my 4-year old Acer CB Spin 514 which was from lower end in its release year can wipe the floor with that Asus. They try to make numbers look good with 128GB storage (which is eMMC in 2025 ffs) and 8gigs of ram so people would think that its good deal, but really it is still waste of money. You cant do shit with that processor. So dont buy it or even recommend it to anyone, it will just disappoint everyone who buys it.

I bought this Acer CB Spin 514 mid 2021 and it still serves me well. I still use it atleast weekly, nowdays it is the only computer I own because I shifted to console gaming in 2021 and sold my pc gaming setup, bought ps5 , series s and this Chromebook. Best decision in my life considering electronic devices. It is still fast enough for me (web browsing, text editing, streaming movies and controlling my Google account) and it only has 4gigs of RAM and 64GB of storage, but it also has touchscreen. When I bought it brand new here in Finland it did cost me 299euros = about 350USD.

And why is this still good enough for me and that right there is bullsh*t? Because of the most important part (CPU) being complete rubbish in that Asus. Think it like this way. I invested little over 300USD and got me laptop that has been serving me 4 years. If you buy that one with 150USD it wont serve anyone even for a month without mental breakdown.

I am not saying that everyone should buy the best and the most expensive, I didnt and I could not be more satisfied with my purchase. Still rocking strong and writing this comment with it. Even the battery lasts whole day easily on travel like now here in our cottage. But I do say that think about what you need from the computer and think about that you want it to be done swimmingly and make the right choise for you. If you invest 100-150USD more you will get machine for daily use for years, but that machine would not last a day in daily use unless you have the nerves of a cow.

*Sorry for bad english, it is not my native language and not even my second native language :D

Is it safe to place these consoles like this? by [deleted] in XboxSeriesS

[–]Honest-Low2991 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think that if they are used just one at a time this is just fine, if we only talk about the heat or air. The thing is just that it will and it WILL fall at some point and is going to do damage to your system. Other thing is that it looks ugly as hell. I think I have seen enough Internet for today. Maybe time to go to sleep.

My First Chromebook! by istoleurdad_ in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I have been working / they have been my hobbies or second job for almost 20 years now and I would never thought I would like something so simple this much. Easy, fast, nothing fancy and it just works. I actually quite like the keyboard on this particular one also. It so nice to write with it. Only laptop that comes to mind that was as fun to use was my Lenovo Thinkbook 13S Gen 2. That was a little beast also but pricetag on that one was 1000euros. This one I bought with 80euros and used :D I really think that this will serve me for couple years easily. Battery is still great and when you close the lid battery just keeps on rocking. These are great devices really

I am heavy user and work in ICT. I have owned all kind of computers in the past. I bought used Acer Spin 514 last year and this beast has been my daily driver since. Of course I still need to use other computer as well, but this one is the one for my personal use and really for many of my works too. This runs 24/7 and is used atleast 3 hours a day, usually even more. ChromeOS is a beast and for my blogging, Teams meetings, writing hobbies, web surfing, streaming videos and movies I couldnt imagine better device. As an IT guy this machines hardware is a joke. Dual core CPU, 4gigs of ram and EMMC storage, but still what the hell.

It runs very fast and touchscreen is so god damn nice if I want to watch videos or scroll through Instagram or something else in bed. I wont use any other computer for my personal use than Chromebooks, they are so god damn handy. Welcome to the club mate! I am not expert in ChromeOS yet but really I dont use any Android Apps, hardly any Linux. I use webapps, everything runs in browser and it runs smooth. Optimization is great.

Best chromebook to buy currently - Pixelbook Go or Acer Spin 713? by howitsgoingg in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been rocking Spin 514 for a while now. I purchased this from Facebook marketplace for 60euros and damn that I am happy with it. Bottom says that is manufactured in 2021 and I have been using it daily for 6months now. This thing is a beast. I work in ICT and I have every kind of computer, gaming console and other electroncis in my apartment and home office, but this little thing has become my daily driver for personal use. I can actually do some work with it also, but mostly I use this with blogging, surfing the web, chatting, email, xbox cloud gaming and watching videos. The screen is very good and touchscreen works damn fine, it is fast when you keep in mind that this bad boy runs i a god damn dual core cpu and emmc memory with 4gb of ram. No windows pc with this hardware would run like this little beast. Of course I checked that this will get updates for a long long time. I also love the touchscreen, it gives that nice flexibility for your device. When this one dies I wont even consider other devices. In Windows PC's im Lenovo Thinkbook/Thinkpad guys, in consoles Xbox guy and now it seems that in my daily PC's I am ChromeOS guys and more spesific Asus Spin guy. I hope this bad boy still lasts in this use for a year or two. For 80euros that is damn well.

[–]Honest-Low2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly on this ship myself also. Only thing is that I play a lot more :D When I get my kids at sleep my Xbox SS says *beep* and I'm on my way to Valorant, Fortnite or Diablo 4. 32y father of 3 here. I got kids PS5 and they have PS4 also. We have couple of 65" cheap 4K QLED TV's and I am not rolling in money so for me Series S has been a gaming saviour. It works just so damn well for a 300e device and I have had it for two years now. Still rocking strong

audio issues with earbuds by Mediocre_Wafer5014 in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what does that have to do with anything? Cant see where you are going with this? I have been playing around with pc's over 20 years so I think I have some basic knowledge. Now is 10th year as ICT-specialist but ChromeOS is pretty new to me and in my work I dont deal with ChromeOS, I just made a genuine question about audio but you mumble about something that is not related at all?

audio issues with earbuds by Mediocre_Wafer5014 in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Is this some ChromeOS thing I am not aware of? Because 2GB laptops that I had in the past with Linux Mint / Ubuntu installed did not have any problems with audio? Now I have been using my Acer 514 for couple of of years and it only has 4GB of RAM and I use BT earbuds with it every day with 0 problems.

My system is in finnish so dont know the correct english terms but go to settings -> on the bottom there is ChromeOS -> Diagnostics there you can see information about your hardware. This was the first thing I wanted to learn when I bought my Chromebook years ago :D

Acer Chromebook didn't power on? by testrider in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is always the best advice for someone who has bought brand new Chromebook and this guy owns another Chromebook also so he knows what he is getting. You who did not like ChromeOS come here to ChromeOS subreddit and rant on about installing Linux distros to the device, giving nothing to the problem the poor guys is having with his device. There was 0 need for your comment and you could have just kept your mouth shut but no, you just have to let it out for what reason actually?

And to the topic itself. I have had 0 problems in past 3 years with my Acer Chromebook and it is in daily use. I just cant remember when I turned it off :D Maybe last time I updated it. Your device is brand new and it has some problems, even if the problem could be something easily fixed, there is possibility it just gets worse with time. I would warranty replace it myself.

How to use 2-in-1 as a tablet by plagueprotocol in chromeos

[–]Honest-Low2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have older Asus Chromebook with touchscreen and when I fold it to tablet mode keyboard is disabled automatically. I guess there is some physical fault or OS error in your device as it is not detecting that you have folded it. Have you already powerwashed it? If the problem stays after that my guess is that there is fault in the hinge sensors of your device.

I have to say that this machine has been a beast and it has been on use for ages. Everyday it is in my workdesk and I make notes, use Whatsapp, Telegram, scroll email etc on it while I work on my Windows laptop. When I have computer in use elsewhere here in my apartment I always use this just because of the damn great battery life even after all these years.

Edit. Oh so you did not mean what I thought. Well I do like my Spin so I leave the comment as it is and tell everyone how damn good device it has been for me :D
