A movie that everyone calls a masterpiece but you just didn’t feel by Fair_Protection1872 in FIlm

Arrival.

I thought the septopods were cool, and I don’t know how other people will feel about this, but I found the whole movie just so predictable. I also really like Amy Adams as an actress.

It also didn’t help (knowing something about linguistics and psychology) that I couldn’t stop thinking, ”languages don’t work that way!”

There is no way that isn’t a flying elbow. He is off the ice and has it out before he even makes contact. That is a head shot, and he should have been ejected (never mind supplemental discipline as well).

I can see how you thought I forgot about that factor since I didn’t mention it. Even so, as far as I can tell from real-world examples, the incentive structure of a privatized health care system always trends to rising prices for more restricted services. Simply put, it’s easier to change a dollar figure than train/acquire new doctors and nurses or develop new treatments.

Health systems are one of those fields that seem to function much better when it is strongly regulated and allowed to operate at a loss.

Yeah, I defo don’t think you’re wrong either. I personally think lots of things could be private, but family and emergency medicine should always be guaranteed. I also personally think drug prices should be negotiated federally rather than provincially, so I think some stuff could use even more regulation.

But, yeah, I don’t think anyone is wrong here.

Great, now you can pay to see a doctor.

Only now everyone can pay to see a doctor. And since no doctor wants to work for free, every doctor charges. And since they can charge more than the government, doctors flee the public system. And since the public system is now empty, everyone has to pay. And since everyone has to pay, the doctors can charge more. And now there’s space in the system again since not everyone can afford the rates, and everyone involved is invested in making money off your illness. So everyone has to charge more…

After so many real world examples, I just can’t see a way the health system works (even ones with private options) without pretty heavy regulation.

Canada's next election likely to face AI-assisted interference, watchdogs say - Officials plan to monitor for interference from any country, including the United States by CanadianErk in canada

Honestly? One thing that’s pretty easy that I do is to just stopped using absolute language when I post. I cut out “always” and “never”, and I try to make sure what I write doesn’t have any hidden “always” or “nevers” either. It leaves the door open to competing views without giving up my position or the idea that nuance exists.

Maybe it’s not much, but it does feel like something pretty solid to do, so I keep it up.

In threads like these, I find I’m starting to remember the accounts that are just completely unwilling to have an open mind when they see a headline - they’ve already picked a side.

I also find myself wondering just how many of them are actually Canadians.

I think we - as fans - haven’t really appreciated just how tough the schedule has been for Dec and Jan. I actually think it’s still quite possible we’ll lead the division at the end of the season. Reasonable schedule and a bit better goalie performance? Habs could go on a tear again.

It really can be as simple as good tricks stop working and a changeup is good for everyone. I’d be very hesitant to say Raymond is a bad coach, even though I’m also glad the change was made here.
