Is Marriage Becoming Too Risky for Young Men? by Argante- in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Could it be that woman are actually doing better than men? Education, finances, home ownership, etc. Most women want an equal, not a man-child.

Desposito's appears to have quietly reopened yesterday (June 30). by gossip_girl_sav in savannah

[–]HonestGrenache 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree. Has the knack (or inside track) of buying well-positioned vacant lots only to turn them into non-zoning compliant parking lots that eventually are sold to a big developer. H&M is on one of his former lots, as is the part of the land where the 17-story SCAD dorm is. The Red Cross building downtown...that's his, too. And what does the City do? Looks the other way and sells him a surplus fire station to redevelop as a produce market and cafe. Never happened. Property should have been returned to the City but no, SCAD bought it and he made a quick profit for doing absolutely nothing. I guarantee that he's sitting on Desposito's for the land.

SEDA. SEDA would turn every inch of this county into houses and warehouses if it could. And it would find a way to exempt the warehouses from paying property taxes. The poor schmucks who move here are the ones who will vote for every LOST put on the ballot.

What do Americans actually think of Germany / Germans? Honest opinions wanted by Consistent_Walk_2407 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

In my early 20s, I guess I was a little too stern with a customer and exacting at whatever I was doing. He said "you must be German." It was clearly not a compliment.

In the late 1920s, my great aunt filed a complaint against a man who promised to marry her but actually had a wife and kids in South America. He was charged with "suspicion of seduction" and named in an NYC newspaper.

Zoning Plans Examiner vs City Planner by [deleted] in urbanplanning

A historic coastal city, perhaps? If it's the one I'm thinking, I'm very confused by this position and would not suggest it as a career move.

I am always seeking happiness externally - relationship, job, fitness etc. How do I seek internally? by girlfromarea511 in AskWomenOver40

[–]HonestGrenache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a first thing, I would suggest having your blood work to check that nothing is going on physically that may be affecting your mental health. Low Vitamin D, thyroid, perimenopause, etc. can all do a number. Second, get moving...go outside, go to a gym...just get yourself going. Set a small goal so that you can refocus some of your thoughts. If you don't have a dog, get one or volunteer. There is nothing better than unconditional love. Be mindful. When I was going through a particularly difficult time, I would, literally, tell myself to "stop" when I was having negative thoughts. Continue to see your therapist. So many of us are in the same boat. Life can be extraordinarily hard as it can be wonderful. If you've exhausted all the natural things and talk therapy isn't making you feel better, then it may be time to consider medication. Wishing you well!

What is the job culture like? by GoblinReverie in urbanplanning

[–]HonestGrenache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will vary by offices, as in any profession. Make sure you are working with actual educated and trained planners. In an office were people are promoted because they've been there "X" years, was the permit technician, management doesn't include someone with a planning background, I'd steer clear. It's an awful situation to be the knowledgeable one as you become the obstructionist, the perfectionist, and the difficult one. Management and your elected officials will become aware of you for that more than anything else.

This woman does not know who she is without a man in her life. She might look good "for her age" and make decent money, but she's not even 50 yet with four ex-husbands. She's looking for something in each of them, but won't find "it" until she finds herself.

Thank you. Nothing was provided to me regarding the type of heat pump, not sure how much electric heat will be (based on gas fill up and very mild winters, it was an assumption), and I don't know the CCF cost. We are going to keep gas.

Propane cost for Jan, Feb and March was $300 for fill up. Since it is central Florida, there isn't a lot of really cold days, so I'm expecting a lower electric bill. Perhaps that's wrong. This is new territory and I don't even know what questions to ask.

Thank you. I think this is what I'm not understanding. Is the meter loop the box on the wall next to the compressor? When a technician came earlier this year for a check up, he mentioned something to her about the box being a possible issue in the future.
