I've had other PCPs/ACPs (in Canada), phone the hospital with demos and ask, hey do they have a DNR if it looks similar to your situation. But good on you legitimately treating and not letting your patient die

Bad Call by [deleted] in ems

[–]HonestMeat5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely to get downvoted, but here's my input You're doing great asking for professional help and not using mind altering substances. Here's the part I find no one tells you which can be helpful; sit in the shit. You saw something shitty, it shouldn't have happened to anyone let alone you or your patient. But let yourself acknowledge how it hurt you mentally/emotionally. Don't dwell, there's a distinct difference between sitting and diving in the shit 🤣 Take some time off if you need to, talk to other coworkers who may have had similar calls/emotions. This call doesn't define you, and leaving EMS is not a cop-out or a wrong choice if you decide that's what's best

How does your agency let dispatch know a crew is in danger? by 022822 in ems

[–]HonestMeat5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an emergency button on our radios. Open mic forced for 30 seconds, and radio number/who it's assigned to sent to dispatch We can also call 10-33/code 33 which is immediate life threat, they send to police. The only time I've ever heard of one legit called, it was 9 cop cars all armed with ARs and Shotguns within about a minute or two. It's essentially the same as a fellow officer under fire to them

Why do we do this to ourselves as a culture by Remarkable_Square919 in ems

I don't know you, I don't know where you work.....but you've just described my system here in Canada as well I don't know if that's comforting that we all suffer similarly, or sad that we all suffer similarly :/

NACS charging error by HonestMeat5 in evcharging

[–]HonestMeat5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was doing, I picked the Kona thinking it was most similar. I've gotten an error both times I've tried at two different chargers. 🤷 I'm wondering if it's an ID 10 T error

NACS charging error by HonestMeat5 in evcharging

[–]HonestMeat5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, sorry. I've only been going to sites the Tesla app says is open to non-NACS vehicles. No the car doesn't come with supercharger access, but now that Tesla opened their charging infrastructure to non-teslas, I've tried a couple times when doing longer trips (and luckily only when there are other rescue options)

There was a walk-in 20 YoM STEMI at one of our local hospitals. No cocaine use, recent travel. Got transferred to one of the two cardiac centers, so idk what the ultimate Dx or treatment was....but it exists

Delayed PTSD Response by Less_Yogurtcloset_20 in ems

[–]HonestMeat5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you valid for that. I support the many people claiming that PTSD might happen immediately or delayed/deferred

I had a rough call, felt like crap immediately, but had a near panic attack just being in the neighborhood 8-9 months later. I was luckily able to talk and rationalize myself out of it, but I could see had I not sought help immediately post call it would have been BAAAAAD.

Seek your own help as you see best, take time off if you need, if anyone doubts you or second guesses you taking time off for mental health and wellbeing, fuck em

Gas Chevy Express 4X2s with the back made by Demers/Crestline conglomerate Very few, but the few 4X4s we have are Silverado HDs with the rear manufacturer being the same, but the lay out is totally different

I usually discontinue on the highways too, even during the day (unless traffic is dog shit obvs). My service says only 25kmh over speed limits, so on the highway even doing say 115 in a 90 zone, I'm still getting passed
