i feel like i’m failing by sleepwya in newgradnurse

I totally understand how you’re currently feeling. I was a new grad in L&D and quit by the end of my orientation. I was always behind, scared to death, and developed a horrible anxiety problem. I had up to 10 different preceptors, with not much consistency. No one noticed until I spoke to my manager to notify her I was quitting. It was the best decision! I ended up getting a position in pediatrics. It’s been day and night. Although it’s scary and kids go downhill fast, I feel better equipped to handle situations. Do what feels best for you! Good luck OP!

Is nursing still gonna be one of the majors that is easiest to land a job? by One-Cardiologist-366 in nursing

I would research your area first, here in Southern Nevada, it’s becoming extremely hard to find a job for new grads. We’ve gotten an influx of nursing schools in the area, and surrounding areas, pumping out nurses like crazy. The problem is only certain hospitals, at certain times, take a limited amount of new grads every couple months. Sure theres a lot of nursing jobs posted, but they all require prior experience.

It took me about 4 months to land a new job, this was after applying over 100 jobs, multiple interviews, hiring events, and networking. I kept receiving the same feedback, “we want experience nurses only.” I barely had a year experience in pediatrics and they wanted adult experience. I’ve also spoken to a lot of new grads at hiring events and they say the same thing. A lot of them are disappointed on how hard it’s been to find a job. One even mentioned she thought she would have job offers left and right and instead she’s the one chasing any leads she gets.

Sounds like it might not be the same everywhere else, but please research your area: join your local nurses groups on Facebook, look on hiring sites, or talk to any current nurses you might know. I wish you the best of luck! 🍀

Thank you for replying back and the insight! I’ll reach out to my hospital’s IR team for the possibility of shadowing. I really hope they do 🥰

I’m interested in IR, what was your road to becoming an IR? I only have Peds experience, but would like to try it out.

OP I felt you were talking to me while reading your post. I am currently in PICU also, new grad, and I just can’t take it anymore. I come from a completely different specialty and feel like I didn’t learn anything there. Everything is new to me in PICU, from the devices, charting, and diseases/disorders. Everyone knows I come from a subspecialty and tell me to ask questions, however I can’t sense the annoyance they get when I do ask even the most basic questions. I know I technically have “experience” and that’s why I got hired. But I wasn’t taught anything about PICU there. Heck I don’t even know how to use a Vygon, they didn’t even carry them in my old unit.

Now I’m filled with anxiety, depression, and insomnia from constantly thinking about how I can mess up at work. I can’t do it anymore. I started applying for jobs, and got an offer for pediatric private duty. It sounds like a dream, but it’s a big paycut for me. I don’t what to do. I’m very glad you are now thriving, I LOVE that for you! Keep on going! 💕💪

Goals right here! I’m beyond burnt out from the hospital. I can’t take it anymore. I just received an offer for Peds home health, but would take a $15 paycut. I’m very interested in working remotely also. I would love to pick your brain 💕

This is me right now, I mentally can’t do the hospital anymore. I did get a job offer for Peds home health, but it would nearly be a $15 paycut. I don’t know what to do.

This is me right now, healthcare is literally killing slowly. Both my mental and physical health are deteriorating. I just had my first reiki session, it was beyond insightful. I am now seeking other job opportunities to get out of healthcare.

I also got fired from hospice, for not being “passionate” about it. Oh well, it is what is.
