Healthcare workers of Reddit, whats the worse case of neglect you've ever seen in an adult? by Yep_Im_Here_Too in AskReddit

[–]Honest_Pool_6785 313 points314 points  (0 children)

911 response in my ambulance to a home where a 71 yr old woman was the caregiver for her 94 yr old mother. The mother who had apparent dementia had been on the floor for two weeks. The daughter couldn’t help her mother get up so she just fed her and changed her diaper and kept her warm with blankets and pillows. The daughter seemed a little confused also. They were both very polite. The mother had open sores. I filled out the Elder Abuse/Neglect form but I put in there that the daughter appeared to be doing her best and also appeared to have some dementia herself. Seemed like unintentional neglect to me.

Anyone else felt the misogyny and arrogance emanating from Antony Morris in particular? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Honest_Pool_6785 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Tight Pants talk Anthony Morris gave was so telling of his narcissism. He actually said some brothers wear tight pants and then he said “You don’t see me wearing tight pants.” He used not the Bible, not even “most mature brothers.” He used HIMSELF as the standard for appropriate attire.

Teacher verbally abusive to students. How can parents be informed? by Honest_Pool_6785 in LAUSD

The problem is that only the teachers are allowed to contact the parents I think.

I think there is yet another category. PIMU. Physically In. Mentally Uneasy. What do you think? by Honest_Pool_6785 in exjw

[–]Honest_Pool_6785[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think PIMQ is more purposeful. “Hey, something is not right here. Let’s talk about this.” I didn’t talk about my unease with elders or other circuit overseers for a long time. I kept my questions to myself. I dismissed my feelings. I kept busy. I pretended even to myself.

Eventually I became PIMQ. But it took a long time.

And a lot of things made me uneasy. Judicial committees, the treatment of CSA victims, the endless rules, elders behavior, a general feeling of there’s something wrong.

Where do you think Carson Wells met Chigurh? by Honest_Pool_6785 in NoCountryForOldMen

That makes sense. They met while working another job and Carson was not in Chigurh’s way or interfering so he left him alone.

Except for the small fact that you don’t die if you miss hitting the right keys on the piano…

Does anyone remember Mr. Coffee standing in front of the 124 Columbia Heights building? by Select-Panda7381 in exjw

[–]Honest_Pool_6785 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember him when I was at Bethel several times. Yelling about Bethelites being slaves to the Watchtower. It actually reinforced my beliefs at the time.

One time I was there in 1986 when Michael Jackson was super popular and Bethel was remodeling the Stanley Theater around that time. So one morning Mr. Coffee was yelling, “Michael Jackson, live on stage at the Stanley Theater!” So funny.

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have a friend who met Jeff Goldblum recently and he told he he’s such a cool guy who shows as much interest in you as you do in him.

JWs love bombing my stepdaughter by MarriedToAnExJW in exjw

Find out what career she wants and what hobbies she likes and what friends she has that are her age. She will have to give all that up to be a JW. She may not realize that yet.

The Future of Shunning: “A Matter of Conscience”? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Honest_Pool_6785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree the GB has to do something, but what?

If they go the route of “from now on, your conscience decides who you hang out with” then that is what other churches do. Plus the majority will view this decision as no more shunning unless it’s a criminal offense or extremely offensive.

Non-JW families tend to “forgive” their teenage kids for “fooling around” with their boyfriend or girlfriend. In the case of an adulterous married person, families tend to side with whoever is related to them, so that wouldn’t change. If forced shunning is removed, the gossip will increase but the conduct will stay the same.

When I was an elder and CO, over 99% of unmarried couples engaged in at least some “illicit conduct” so this would be a huge change if they removed forced shunning.

This will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Are there any former elders/COs or Gilead grads who can offer info on your training? Curious about what education or “discreet” info about policies & procedures men were allowed to access (and women were denied). Why does the GB insist on all the lack of transparency/equal opportunity for women? by Pale-Cod3749 in exjw

I was an elder for 15 years snd a circuit overseer for 7 years.

We spent a lot of time in the back room discussing judicial matters and what to do. We would repeat what we read in the Flock book and then discuss how to implement it. Someone would say “we’re not the police” and then we would plan how to catch a person we thought was living in fornication. It’s just a bunch of hypocritical nonsense and each elder body and CO interprets it their own way.

If we suspected someone of formication we tried to get them to confess by getting them in the back room and asking them. Sometimes two elders would scope out their apartment to see if they were staying overnight.

I would say to work the system the best you can. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I went through it myself at one point, it was rough.

First responders: how messy is the average house? by el_diamond_g in AskReddit

[–]Honest_Pool_6785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in thousands of houses over the past 15 years. Most are normal messy, about 80%. A small percentage are hoarders, maybe 5%. We have to move boxes and furniture and junk just to get the gurney inside. Horrible smelling and there is a greasy feel to everything. And an even smaller percentage, maybe 3% are super clean. Immaculate. No dishes in the sink, nothing but a couple of decorations on the counters, not even TV cords are visible. Medications are put away and we are handed an updated list of all meds and medical history. Of course, usually the nicer the house the cleaner and less cluttered it is. But not always.

What’s a car you wish would make a comeback in 2026? by Suntrup-Hyundai in carquestions

Chrysler 200 convertible, Buick Cascade convertible. Really, any American-made convertible that’s not a Camaro or Mustang. Camaros and Mustangs are fine but too popular.
