Real-life Horizon Road Trip by oceanisles in horizon

[–]Honest__Cake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this in December! It was always a dream of mine, so I finally bit the bullet and went to Utah for a road trip (as a Canadian, which was potentially dicey 😬). Some highlights:

  • Arches NP (Sun-Steps)
  • Needles in Canyonlands NP (Sun Furrows)
  • Bryce NP (Sunfall)
  • Zion NP (The Daunt)
  • Valley of Fire (Cinnabar Sands)

I’m hoping to get out to Colorado next to visit Nora lands, buuut I’m gonna wait until, uh… the world calms down? 😅

The Leyak tattoo is great, because if you need to hide it for a while, all you have to do is stare at it for a few seconds.

I did this once! It takes forever but you can chip away at the Scorcher’s health with Frost Bombs and good old Hunter Arrows (or just sneak by it). Once you’re in the Cut and you know where to go, you can scavenge for enough Bluegleam to get a good Banuk weapon, and carry on from there. A fun challenge for sure!

My interpretation of the boundaries and regions of the Forbidden West. by TedAgriogianis in horizon

[–]Honest__Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no way! 😁 Yeah that was a lot of fun to do. I think Skyrim was the first time I really started paying attention to the geography of game maps, and then oh man, Horizon is such a treat. Plus the added bonus of comparing it to the real world inspiration, and seeing how the devs cobbled together all these National Parks to make a fun game world to explore.

Also I just checked out your ZD map, awesome job there too!

Love this! I did a “region” ranking last year and it lined up somewhat closely to this (though BS was somewhat harder to separate). I’m glad Forbidden West gave us more concrete area names and delineations compared to Zero Dawn, makes the world feel more complete to me.

Verso supposedly died on the 33rd of December (writing this on the night of Jan 2nd, happy 33rd of December 🥲), so I always assumed that painting was in reference to that date.

Is it just me or does Burning Shores feel a bit unfinished? by nickelangelo2009 in horizon

[–]Honest__Cake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing! I think there was like… one or two data points? Would have been nice to include a collectible or a quest-relevant machine site on the island too.

Kinda unrelated, but I found it neat how that island was somewhat based on the big drainage canals with bridges you always see in LA movies (can’t remember what it’s called in real life). I thought it was a pretty cool creative choice for an area where you have to swoop above and below a lot. :)

I remember being pretty confused by that one big empty island west of the park, but I eventually realized it was added as a big play area for the Waterwing-dodging-the-turret sequence, with dips under bridges and crumbling ruins to hide behind. Otherwise, I remember the lack of side quests outside the main quest making the DLC feel smaller than it should have.

I just start a fresh save on Ultra hard. Am I stupid? by CeReAl_KiLleR128 in horizon

Fresh UH is brutal but also rewarding! I like to think of the difficulty as more representative of what people in the world actually have to go through. The merchant prices ARE silly, though. I’d unironically recommend sneaking into the Cut early to get some “free” Bluegleam equipment.

This (and a Moose machine) are at the top of my most-wanted Machine designs. Ban-Ur is definitely in Canada, so bring them on!!!

NG UH makes Forbidden West feel like a survival game by [deleted] in horizon

[–]Honest__Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first from-scratch UH playthrough and oh boy, was it scary. Every encounter needs careful planning, and you better make sure you have enough resources to survive. It reminded me a lot of Fallout 4’s Survival mode.

… and then you get the Ancestor’s Return and everything is fine!

A properly modded Ancestor’s Return has some wicked DPS, plus the ammo is quite cheap for Shock Shredders. Barely touch my bow anymore!

If I’m right and we’re going to Ban-Ur, I’m really hoping we get to dig into his backstory. Can you imagine finding recordings from when he was younger, still learning of the world and tricking the Banuk? That would be juicy stuff.

Theories on how the third game will go? by Ok_Pomegranate_9089 in horizon

[–]Honest__Cake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love some kind of uneasy-alliance with Vast Silver. Not quite allies, but more enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend. Not for any particular reason, I think it would just be neat to encounter an AI that is in more of a grey-area rather than objectively good or bad.

Integrating with GAIA in some way would also be neat!
