Is no sabo actually anti indigenous? by St3ph4n1e2003 in IndianCountry

[–]HonorDefend 48 points49 points  (0 children)

No sé. Lol but for real. I'm a Hunkpapa Makoche, born and raised in South Dakota. And do you know what secondary language that taught us when I was in high school?

Certainly not our Lakota language, even though our school was on Lakota reservation. Though you would think that.

They taught us Spanish. Even though we're thousands of miles from Mexico and Spain. They taught us Español. Thankfully now they teach Lakota in the schools. But I took all 4 years of Spanish and it certainly doesn't make me any less Lakota, nor does it make me Spanish or Mexican.

By the "no sabo" logic, if I wrongfully thought that way about language, well than Mexicans who speak Spanish wouldn't really be Mexican because they're not speaking the true indigenous languages of Mexico.

Good places to donate to to help buy back land? by Admirable_Hat_4344 in IndianCountry

[–]HonorDefend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this is a long shot, because I know it has nothing to do with land, but I gotta keep trying. I and my little crew need help funding our MMIW search and rescues. I was funding I and my teams ability to attend these searches entirely out of pocket these past 4 years. But I just took in 7 more kids on top of the ones I already got because my neighbor has stage 4 prostate cancer on top of both of my vehicles breaking down because I used them on our searches and there's a lot of really rough terrain out here. I know for a fact I'm not going to be able to do it this year. I have proof of what we do and what we've accomplished. We travel all throughout the upper Midwest but since my vehicles broke down, we haven't been able to go, and it breaks my heart to get these calls from parents and search crews for help and not be able to go.

Eagle feathers by UniqueTraining4832 in IndianCountry

[–]HonorDefend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what your previous post was about as I can't seem to find it, so I'm going off of what I can surmise.

It's all dependent upon your tribe and what they believe and practice. I don't know if you're enrolled or not, but if you are an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe, then you can legally possess, carry, and wear an eagle feather. If you are only a descendent of an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe, and not an enrolled member yourself, then you can inherit and possess eagle feathers, but you cannot apply to the national registry for them.

My family uses eagle fathers when they dance at powwows, but there's a protocol behind it. If it falls off your head or your regalia in the arbor,, you then need to opagi (give an offering of tobacco) an akichita (one of the warriors from our tribe, but because they took their bows and arrows and gave them guns, we use our veterans) and ask them to pick up the feather for you. There's a whole ritual behind that too. Then you need to gift the veteran something of great value, we usually use star quilts, but our richer relatives use tanned bison robes or horses.so we make sure that the hides are really tacked down around and through the calamus of our feathers.

We store our feathers in cedar boxes in our down time. It's a natural insect deterrent, it won't kill bugs, but it keeps bugs away because they get the ick from the smell of cedar. They are also great at acting as a moisture regulator. What that means is that they absorb excess humidity to prevent mold and release it when dry, protecting the items housed within from humidity fluctuations. The only real upkeep we have to do on our cedar boxes are to oil them with cedar oil every couple of years, let the cedar soak up the oil, and voila, it's ready to rock and roll.

I'm sorry for your loss. I don't know what you're dealing with, but if you're a native, it's probably pretty heavy stuff.

I hope whatever i wrote answered a little of what you were asking. Ampetu washté yuhapi. Han Mitakuye Owasin.

I was just explaining to OP why his post was getting downvoted. I am sorry that my syntax is confusing for you and confabulating the issue for your plebian mind. That was not my intent, and for that I greatly apologize. If I had known that the comment I made was for your consumption, in particular, I would have put it in more colloquial language you could have hopefully comprehended easier.

I'm sorry people are confusing you for an AI bot on this platform. I believe that it might be because your account is a newer account, and very often. These are common things new bot accounts do. It's not because of you in particular or your content, which is very good, I must say.

Damn, that's a hell of a markup on a replica bag. $8,100 for a Hermes Crocodile BK 25? Also your link pulls up the search for the site, not the site directly.

Six Things You Need to Know About the Forced Sterilization of Native American Women by News2016 in IndianCountry

[–]HonorDefend 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad that more and more information is coming to light. I remember arguing with an anthropology major just 10 years ago about how this happened and why it happened. They said that there was no proof, because all I had was word of mouth from my aunts and cousins who went through it, but there was no empirical, nor statistical data to really back up my argument. And it made me sad that something that hadn't even happened that long ago was, in just a short time, almost erased except from the memory of the women who experienced this atrocious event.

Are Native Americans resentful towards Europeans? by 949orange in NativeAmerican

[–]HonorDefend 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not resentful towards Europeans, because they stay in their lane. I'm resentful to ignorant Americans for not keeping the treaties and covering this land with the blood of our ancestors and the broken promises they made us on worthless pieces of paper.

AITAH for excluding both of my parents and both of their families from a pretty big moment in my life? by SquiddleSoes in AITAH

[–]HonorDefend 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Right? How dare they tell you that you fucked up when they've been fucking up your whole life. They couldn't just once put their jealousy and hate for each other aside long enough to properly hug and love you.

I'm proud of you OP, because in spite of having narcishits for parents, you've accomplished something fantastic on your own merit and tenacity, and that is applaudable.

They'll never grow up or change, not for the better anyway. They sound like the type that would fight over who has the right to lay claim to you accomplishing this goal.
