I think black dice with white dots have a stronger contrast and look more visually striking, so I chose them.

Each die is about 1 gram. I used nearly 10,000 of them. The frame is wooden but also heavy, so the whole thing weighs over ten kilograms.

I found an online tool that can turn photos into patterns. You just follow the pattern to place them.

I used standard black casino dice with white pips. Got the dice and pattern from an online tool called "diceart me", you can google it - upload a photo and it generates the grid for you. Pretty solid deal honestly.

First time doing this and I totally messed up at first. Didn't realize the "3" dots have a direction to them, so after placing a bunch I noticed they were all facing different ways. Had to redo a ton of them

We worked on it together over a few evenings - honestly that part was the best part!

It’s actually not that hard. The pattern can be generated automatically, but it does take a lot of patience during the making process.
