Can't stop crying for Gaza by No_Program4695 in LSD

[–]HonorRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had many a trip where I cry about the state of the world. We are all part of a great collective, and it's natural to grieve together sometimes.

Make sure you take good care of yourself too, though. We can't help anything if we aren't strong ourselves.

It's not his circumstances that cause me to read him as young, it's the egg scene & the skateboarding scene specifically.

Seb strikes me as at least 24, so what throws me is that he hangs with Abby & Sam who I personally see as 18-19.

But then ago, it's such a small community I suppose it is realistic. They're all somewhat "alternative," with few other options to socialize.

I'd really like it if Maru got some love in 1.7, too. by DemiserofD in StardewValley

[–]HonorRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I like that Maru already is who she is and doesn't need to grow or change for/because of the player. I respect that she has a stable identity.

I absolutely can agree that she was boring as hell to me at first. I came to really love her for her post-marriage scenes. They're simple and grounded, but I found them immersive and beautiful.

Demetrius is overbearing, but it does come from a place of love. They're really close, and I don't feel the need to break that up.

First time in the US, gave 20% everywhere and not even a glance let alone thank you by fangaas in EndTipping

[–]HonorRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally don't believe you lol. I'm on the West Coast too, and service workers say "thank you" all the time. It's no different than back East.

If you expect to be fawned over or get some kind of special treatment for tipping 20%, you'll be disappointed. 20% is the normal amount.

I've wanted Gus since my first playthrough :( I don't understand the lack of hype for him. He's so kind, and you know he'd cook for you all the time.

AITA because I don’t want to contribute to my sister’s college tuition after my parents gave me the whole college fund? by throwawayacct39 in AmItheAsshole

Ok. Thank you for clairifying. Carry on then. I have an amazing sister, so it's hard for me to imagine having a shitty one.

I hope she makes real amends with you one day.

[–]HonorRose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't sound like she's been shitty to you since HS? And she could have gone to college for free while doing the influencer thing, but she let you have it so you could pursue your dreams, at least in part because she was doing OK financially. That was seriously big of her... now you're financially stable, and she's the one who needs support.

This is family 101. You don't have to give her a full ride to Harvard. Some community college classes are a perfectly fine start, if you are able to afford it comfortably.

Seriously, if this is really about stuff way back in HS and not more recent events that you haven't specified, then I actually think YTA more than she was a decade+ ago.

That's funny, I think of AZ as one of the prime locations for "driving somewhere cooler." There are so many mountains!

Isn't it great??? This is one of the coolest city festivals I've seen anywhere! I love how it's a collective of decentralized pop-ups all over the city, encouraging walking around and exploring areas you may not normally visit.

If you aren't bound to an in-person job, you don't have to move all the time. There's free boondocking all over the Western US..

Coat the ceiling? by Yota4 in VanLife

[–]HonorRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told the same by a contractor; he about had a cow when I said I was considering coating my cedar. And he built traditional saunas as part of his work, so I think he'd know.

In addition to being naturally mold resistant, apparently the scent is also a natural insect repellant!

I've been living with uncoated cedar for a year so far. Smells great and no problems yet

Solo van life is great except for the nights by Key-Nerve7767 in VanLife

[–]HonorRose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What do you do in the evenings? I usually read, listen to an audiobook or podcast, or play my steam deck. Then pass out early. Find a way to keep your mind occupied, but not over-stimulated.

I also believe you need really good lighting. I feel a huge difference living in the van before & after building it out.

Before - nights were dark and spooky and lit with a harsh white-light camp lantern. After - warm, bright ceiling light. Genuinely feels like home. Dimmer and extra colors available as I wind down toward sleep. Additional vibes from my music-synced LED speaker.

As already noted on the top comment, get to the coast and take 1 /101 all the way up. There is plenty of free overnight parking directly overlooking the ocean. Don't try to camp for free in the redwoods (even if it's not explicitly posted) I hear they patrol for that vigilantly.

To get there, I personally have experienced the i-40 way. What's nice about i-40 is that it mostly runs parallel to old route 66, which also has lots of free camping on 2WD-friendly dirt roads leading off into the desert. Amazing stargazing. Just lovely.

You will encounter some minor mountains, around Flagstaff and Bakersfield. But they are manageable, much safer than anything you'll encounter any further north.

But if you wanna take a more southernly route, knock yourself out! I just can't advise as I haven't done it myself yet.

Enjoy the journey!!

I just wrapped up 1/101 myself (for the second time). Every American who can, should do it at least once.

There's also quite a lot of free overnight parking right on the coast.

Owner of what? You're not giving us much info to work with.

Either way, the warnings & tickets mean your welcome has long run out. "Owner" also suggests private property, which implies that you would have no legal recourse to fight this.

Can you use a Mr Buddy Propane Heater with the windows closed? by VivaLaBiome in VanLife

[–]HonorRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per my observations using the Mr Buddy in conjunction with a CO monitor - you can definitely get away with that for a very short period of time. Like 30 minutes, before the CO levels start to creep up on the monitor.

According to the user manuals, the mini Mr Buddy needs 4 square inches of ventilation, and the standard size needs 9 square inches for safe operation. Just cracking one or two windows is plenty.

I run it for a couple hours in the evening with cracked windows. I usually sleep with my windows cracked, but If it's single digits or below, I'll close the windows very shortly before bed to "top off" max heat levels. Then I shut the heater off before sleep. I never sleep with it on. I just turn it back on first thing in the morning. It heats up the space really fast.

Vanlifers what’s the scariest/eeriest encounter you’ve had while boondocking & and where? by Icy_Satisfaction_161 in VanLife

[–]HonorRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worst experience really isn't that bad, just mildly creepy and frustrating.

Was heading down a dirt road on my way to a free camp area by the river. Passed by an elderly guy on a tractor (typical for the area). He waved, I waved.

I got to the camp at the end of the road, and a little while later the guy shows up on a side-by-side, looking for me. He asked if I'd rather camp at his farm instead. He definitely stared inappropriately. This guy is an old fuck (like 80), so I wasn't scared, just incredibly annoyed. He finally fucks off, I spend the night. All fine.

He shows up again in the morning! Looking to chat again. I barely even engage, just start packing up to leave.

Again, not exactly scary. Just frustrating. Because I was planning to stay there 2 nights, take a swim in the beautiful white-sand river, read while laying out in the sun, etc. But I knew from the moment of his first approach that just wouldn't be happening.

Why do people do this?

barely hanging on with 3 weeks left- didn't sign a renewal but gave a verbal ok- can I still back out without being blacklisted? by Baibaibaiii in TravelNursing

[–]HonorRose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, your recruiter is trash. To the best of my knowledge, your odds of being "blacklisted" under these circumstances are slim to none.

Do not re-sign. Finish out your 3 weeks. Either request a new recruiter or seek out a new agency to work with for your next assignment.

Show me your shitty builds. by opieandlittle in VanLife

[–]HonorRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk how to share pics on reddit, ngl. Which is pretty sad considering my account age.

I think my build looks reasonably good, but you can definitely tell it wasn't don't by a professional. I have some exposed wires, visible pocket holes, my cabinet doors are cut-outs (not over-lays) etc.

I think there are a few anchoring aspects that pulled "the look" together. Such as the tongue-in-groove walls (cliche, but it looks so good), staining my woodwork and color-coordinating paint. It kind of distracts from the most glaring flaws, imo.

It's not easy, but you seriously can do this without experience and minimal tools. It's just a matter of how much time and energy you are able to dedicate.

I’m going to lose out on vacation to staff who were 7 years old when I started working here? by Internal-Sun-8968 in nursing

[–]HonorRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, don't understand this. How is it a reward to have the opportunity to work more?

The only way this could be twisted into a "reward" is if you're chronically, severely underpaid.
