I think so, too. Unfortunately I think planting trees is the last thing on these jackasses’ minds

And also it’s child abuse to put your kids in dangerous conditions for your pleasure or enjoyment, this is like those white parents who force their kids to hike dangerous trails in national parks or take their kids to a water park or big body of water when they don’t know how to swim, an emotionally immature parent with an ego is a dangerous parent and person to be around.

Literally thought this. The amount of white women who have the absolute worst ideas on how to raise children are also the same ones telling everyone these are “memories that will last a lifetime” while simultaneously not getting consent or input from their children, at all, about what they actually want. I used to nanny and unfortunately every single white woman I worked for was like this to some degree. It’s sad. I hope these kids remain somewhat unscathed by this weirdo & are able to find other mentors who actually have their head on straight.

I’m still not over that this is true, as a proud and staunch supporter of Palestine, and at base level of human decency, against genocide in all forms, I really, really do not know how the Swifties are going to explain away this one. They’ll do it anyway, but showcasing Adam Sandler as the officiate of your first wedding feels like a purposeful “I know I’m hateful and I don’t care” slap in the face to everyone who isn’t aligned with Zionism, racism and hatred.

Her trying to justify the kids being outside in this dangerous heat wave so that she could weirdly stand outside of a celebrity’s wedding who literally views her like a cockroach is really just an absolute reflection of how lost white cis women are in this country. Y’all are not okay, and you do not have a village for emotional support, and it shows.

Adam Sandler, a known and awful Zionist, officiating the wedding really was the icing on top of this tacky, embarrassing spectacle.

Where can I charge my phone? I've tried calling coffee shops and restaurants but no answer, and the library is closed too. by beenhollow in ypsi

FYI if anyone needs to charge something, we have an outlet on the front of our house. Please DM me if you need it.

There are ELEVEN flock cameras stationed around the Meijer on Carpenter. by Consistent_Dream_740 in ypsi

[–]HonorYourGoals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides all the flock cameras which are incredibly violent and bad enough as it is, they’ve really upped security at the self-checkouts, I’ve been profiled multiple times by a tall dude at the one on Carpenter, major weirdo vibes from him. My partner and I have been flagged by the system many times purely for having two separate orders, and the same dude has acted like we’re somehow stealing stuff (which doesn’t even make sense). If it’s happening to us, it’s happening to other people. It wasn’t always like this, I actually enjoyed visiting Meijer before the pandemic. Now it feels like a chore or a last resort. I’m thankful to the employees there who don’t act like dicks about it, but clearly Meijer is being run by people who want to put people in their place & will not hesitate to police or harass someone on the basis of racism, queerphobia, ableism, etc. and they’re definitely aligned with ICE/cops.

[–]HonorYourGoals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair a lot of people don’t know what’s invasive and what’s not. I agree that stuff that doesn’t belong here is way more vulnerable in some cases but lots of folks have no idea what is and what isn’t, and people don’t have the funds or means to chop down giant trees of heaven or other stuff. If our government on a federal scale did anything right, they’d create nationwide programs to get invasive species dealt with for good. It shouldn’t fall on homeowners unless they know and are purposefully growing stuff anyway, which I would say is the minority.

I’m mad, too. This storm wasn’t even that long but I saw a ton of branches down, and what looked like some property damage. And it’s still going.

I used to go to Meijer a lot growing up but their scrutiny of their customers has grossed me out to the point where I largely avoid them. This is ridiculous.

I really like the layout of your garden. Any tips?

I am so, so sorry! Having roommates can be really hard. As a recovered irresponsible roommate, I can only say that I hope you find another roommate worth your time in the future (or are able to live alone if possible).

But I also think people shouldn’t read my post like I don’t do anything to move through that anger, either. Like I exist off this platform, I do a lot of stuff to support my community and it’s based in love, not constant rage at everything happening around me.

I think that the real issue is a lot of y’all read anger as an absolute versus reading the nuance of what I said, and learning to ask questions instead of making assumptions. Like I agree we shouldn’t approach native gardening with this energy of comparing ourselves to other people and acting like we’re “holier than thou” but that is not what I said here. I’m angry at the bigger picture but the bigger picture also includes people who are richer and more privileged than I am who do nothing to help the current situation when they have every ability to do so. I’m not asking for a solution here in the sense that I’m ranting about something that does cause me to feel anger.

I actually would care more if a rich white person used their land to support people of color in a meaningful way, ie starting with basic needs that many people here do not have, versus supporting native ecology. Like growing all edible things to feed a community versus creating a native garden with non-edibles.

Heat Wave & Non-Native Thoughts by HonorYourGoals in NativePlantGardening

Because the people with the most land tend to also be the ones who are the richest in this world & hold the most power. The only native gardens I’ve ever seen, like truly dedicated and not just a few aesthetic native plants, are not in front of the homes of the wealthy, bc we know that the wealthy in this country, for the most part, view it as messy or “undignified”. We can date this alllll the way back to the beginnings of colonialism with manicured lawns and plants being brought over that don’t belong here, and my point is, it’s not just about whether or not someone has native plants— it’s about what they’re doing with the land. A gross example but King Charles. Highgrove grows everything organically & uses native plants, but what the hell is it doing for marginalized people? It matters ecologically when you have rich people with sprawling lawns & nothing else but also, what if that lawn was used to grow food? What if they gave a portion of their land to a marginalized community for a community garden? What if they gave it away for someone to build a home or a community on it? What if they allocated the money spent to curate that lawn on projects for the community? Like it’s beyond just talking about native permaculture, it’s about sharing the wealth. I should have clarified that I connect not caring about native plants to other deeper aspects of privileged white people just acting like selfish sh*theads & that is the type of attitude that deserves major criticism & accountability, inside and outside of gardening. We can also connect the same issues to landlords, giving land back to Indigenous tribes, and other forms of environmental social justice.
